    Casual kilt help

    Hello everyone!

I have an event coming up this weekend that I wanted to dress up for, and I'm a little unsure on how my casual kilt will fit in with all my other accessories. I was hoping for some advice and direction! So here is everything I'm planning on wearing:

    • Black Oxford shoes
    • Black Kilt Hose
    • Bottle Green Flashes
    • Sport Kilt Casual Kilt
    • White Button down shirt and Black Tie
    • Glengarry Hat
    • Rob Roy Style Brown Sporran with chain

Am I doing this right? Any help would be appreciated!

Let me first say, well met and welcome McGrowl. I would forgo the cap unless the event is out of doors. If you want to carry the cap (even if indoors where it is not worn) it is an "over the top" accessory these days, though not unusual to see. Please do not run it through the epaulettes of a jacket (if that was considered) to carry the cap. Folding over a belt or slipped into a pocket is more appropriate.

I would suggest that you may consider a splash of color in a pocket kerchief. A green to compliment your flashes would work as well as a color (silver or gold) to match jewelry, ie. watch, tie tack or bar, sporran chain. Smile for the camera and don't forget to post photos for us. Have a good time.

I would be comfortable wearing your outfit as listed.

That's solid advice. Thank you so much!

I think I'm just looking for an excuse to wear the cap. It's so comfortable and stylish!

Assuming the Kilt you are talking about is the one in your icon photograph you might want to consider a green and brown tie to pull together the color of your sporran and the kilt.
    The hielan' man he wears the kilt, even when it's snowin';
He kens na where the wind comes frae, But he kens fine where its goin'.

Welcome to Xmarks! I guess my first question would be what kind of event are you attending? Either way, id switch the black hose for a different color, perhaps a secondary color in the tartan or a complimentary color to it. Also, I second the advice to drop the black tie and go for some color. I also suggest you take a look at the THCD guide in the traditional forum. Lots of ideas and inspiration to get your look just right.

    Hi McGrowl

I absolutely agree with Tarheel on the hanky!

And, since you've asked for advice: Don't wear a button down shirt. Ever. Again. Except when you're playing polo or some such.

    Have fun!
