    Colors for garter ties.

I was at a reenactment trade fair over the weekend and found a few things that are quite useful. It seems that Delp co., a company that started out making socks for use with 18th century knee breeches, has started trying it's hand at kilt socks. They are not the thickest, but since they are made of the same material as their other products and are very durable. I was able to buy two pair of diced hose, one red/white and the other red/black and one solid pair in ancient green all for around $52. I have found that my muted red garter ties look good with my red and white hose, but they just don't look right with the red and black ones. I was wondering if a pair of ancient blue ties would look good? I think that they would look good with my green or grey hose if nothing else, but I typically wear regular ribbon flashes with my solid hose. I tie my garters on the outside of the cuff when dressed for formal events, that's why I am so concerned. Any advice is appreciated at this point.

If the muted red garter ties aren't working with your red and black hose I'd try either Loden/Bracken Green or a nice rich Gold/Mustard.
Unless of course you just got a pair of garters in bright red. Those would work too.

BTW: do you have a link for their kilt hose? I went to their page and all I could find was women's stuff and one pair of crew socks.

They sell mostly to vendors who run the reenactment circuit. But the red and white ones are sold here http://smoke-fire.com/hats-and-stockings-4.asp

This was the first time I saw them in the red and black and I dove on the chance. Here is their official site, I just found it and haven't given it a look through yet. http://www.delpstockings.com/

The red and white ones are cotton with a white cuff. I'm not sure how historically accurate they are but this may account for their relatively inexpensive price point. I prefer woollen kilt hose.

I fold mine over twice since they make theirs the same length as their reenactment stockings. It hides the actual cuff and makes a thicker looking fold.
