Colour of Argyle Jacket and Vest
I bought an Argyle outfit last year. I'm a little colour blind so didn't notice this until my gf pointed it out. The jacket is definitely black, but the vest is a dark navy. Is this usual?

I'd say it's a bit unusual, could you post pics of them perhaps?

Sorry don't have a digital camera that works. Not sure the difference would show up in a pic anyway. I'm giving the Immortal Memory tonight at a Burns' supper, so someone will take a pic I'm sure. If it shows up I can get someone to help me post it. Could this be yet another disappointment from my overseas provider...

Who was the manufacturer? Is there a name on the label in the jacket?

I bought a suit a while back that had to bee looked at by a few people to make sure that it was not mixing up midnight blue and black, so I guess it can happen. Take it out in bright sun light I guess. Good luck.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Unusual? Yes. A mistake by the supplier? Probably. A mistake by you in accepting the purchase? Well, probably yes, but understandable in the circumstances. Does it really matter? Probably not.

Now you have an excuse to buy the blue jacket and black vest to finish the two sets of jackets!
What a glorious problem to have!

A lot depends on the lighting. Yes, they are two different colours, and they do make a difference.
For starters, I would try to match the black of the jacket locally in both colour and texture.
Then have a waistcoat (vest) made up. It would probably be somewhat cheaper than going back overseas to rectify it.
Finally, when the exchequer will stand it, get a dark blue to match the vest, and a balmoral in the same colour. (You might want to get a Crail with bone buttons, or some other variant that is somewhat less formal than the Argyle with silver buttons. (Ask for a swatch, and have it checked in bright light.)

Don't worry about it. Go to the Yellow Pages and find someone local who can dye it for you. If you buy a navy blue Argyll jacket there is no guarantee it will colour match (and in all likelihood it won't). You'd be far better off spending the money for either a 3- or 5-button vest (get the one you don't have) which will add to the versatility of your Argyll without crowding your closet with a jacket you don't really need.
