Custom-Made Clan Colquhoun Kilt?
Hello,
I have been wanting to purchase a kilt for awhile now, and I think I'm at the point where I'm ready to pull the trigger. I am looking to have a kilt made with my clan tartan, Clan Colquhoun, but I'm not overly interested in paying an arm and a leg for it to be made in the UK.
I did find some original fabric from my clan on eBay, and I was wondering if I could get some advice from the posters on this board: is there a place where I can send the fabric I purchase from another location here in the states and have a kilt custom sewn for me? I live in Chicago, IL if that helps.
If this is not feasible, I would like a recommendation for a quality-made kilt I can buy here in the states. Thoughts?
I appreciate any guidance you can give. Thanks in advance for your help!

There are some top-quality kiltmakers you can send it to, provided it's a good cloth, and have a kilt made for you. I would recommend any or all of the following.
www.usakilts.com
www.kathyskilts.com

We have many fine kilt makers here in the US.
Wallace Catanach
Barbara Tewksbury
Kathy Lare
Matt Newsome
to name but a few........ Contact any of them. I'm sure that one of them will be able to help you.

Barb Tewksbury did a kilt for me recently and it has fast become my favourite here is my review:

I have no qualms about recommending Barb's work to anyone, she is a pleasure to work with and I am sure I will call on her in future.

from another Chicagoan. I second any of the kilt makers mentioned earlier. They may want to a swatch of the material you have to see if it is suitable for a kilt. Are we going to see you at the ISAS Highland games in Oak Brook on June 20-21. If you are coming all the X Markers are checking in at my tent, Clan Chisholm, in the middle of the event. Hope to see you there.

I am planning on coming to the games on Saturday the 21st. Look forward to meeting you there, along with any of the other x markers who happen to be around. Hopefully, I'll be sporting a right fine kilt by that time, but we shall have to see.

That's one heck of a deadline for any kiltmaker to meet! God speed to you, Sir!

A big welcome to a fellow clansman.
Give Rocky a call at USA kilts. He makes a semi-traditional in the Colquhoun. I have both a semi trad pleated to sett, and a premier pleated to stripe that I wore for my wedding. The semi trad is a heck of a lot of kilt for the price. Nice enough that it will see you thru all but the fanciest of events, but not so expensive it will bring a tear to your eye if someone spills a drink on it.
