Dressing for 2013 Robbie Burns Celebrations?
I asked one of pipers about the dress code for the evening. He said casual. In this part of the country, dressing up means black jeans, white shirt & black leather vest. Of course I wont be wearing anything like that!
Im planning to wear a very pale shirt, MacLean hunting tie, black argyll jacket & vest, pale yellow hankie & MacLean hunting kilt. The question is, claret or off white hose (slightly darker than the shirt)? Either would look good to my eye.

I would go with the claret hose.

Sanx Zardoz & DK. Claret was my first pick also. I didnt want to look out of place on my first go around.

Ours is tomorrow night, highland dress or black tie optional. I'm wearing my ancient Campbell kilt, blue hose with tartan flashes, black wing tips, black day sporran, my home made 4" light brown belt (didn't have time to make a black one!), tattersall shirt, not sure what tie yet, and my Harris Tweed kilt jacket. I have a new bespoke vest, but it's too tight and I want to be comfortable!
By next year I'll have a bigger vest and a black belt. I do the best I can for just getting into this addiction this past Labor Day!

I went with claret myself, they're my go-to hose nowadays.
I piped last night at a small Burns Supper. Only two men in kilts, myself and the fellow who organised the event.
Both of us were wearing vintage goathair sporrans, 100% compliance!
(But he was wearing a "flat cap", a tartan one to boot!)

One of the biographers of the Bard stated that Burns was a claret man.
