Evening Wedding on Saturday - Feedback on Kilt & Accessories?

    Hi guys & gals,

I'm just looking for some feedback on the accessories I have picked out for the evening wedding I'm attending on Sat.
I was asked by the Bride to wear my kilt, so I thought it best to tone it down from my formal PC or Regulation Doublet.

I have a Grey Argyle Jacket w/ Vest, white shirt, semi formal sporran and my Hunting Stewart kilt. Recently bought some green hose to match the colour of the kilt and some red flashes to bring out the red in the tartan.

I'm thinking a red tie to match the flashes, it's either that or a black tie to match my black flashes.

I'm open to all opinions, thoughts and ramblings ith:

Dave ... I'm assuming this not a Black tie formal event, if it is go with the PC. Otherwise I think your outfit is very appropriate, add your tie and polished black shoes and you're ready to go. (I assume you are not talking about a bow tie). I would would go with the red tie and flashes. Black is more a funeral thing than a wedding thing. Now a yellow self tie bow tie might be just the thing if you are into bow ties.
    Cheers

Of the two I like the look of the grey for a wedding.

On a personal note I'd move the lower pin up about three inches ending where the top one is, moving it slightly right (as you look at it). I'm not a fan of flashes but a little red, showing from just above the v.

The red tie will be fine with your selection, as well as a yellow tie in a muted tone. Yellow is the color of communication, I've heard.

The outfit should be fine, assuming the whole wedding isn't formal. Red tie trumps black tie but you really do have a lot of flexibility in choice of tie, none of which need to match anything - stripes, patterns, solids. Lots of other threads on the subject. By the way, I would say that your sporran is formal not "semi formal" (we are not sure what that is).

    Enjoy the wedding.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I should have mentioned it's not a full formal wedding; the groom will be in a nice suit for his big day.
I did mean regular tie, so I might end up in the red, but I never thought of yellow, which is an awesome choice for Spring
I'm not opposed to bow ties either!

I'll put up some pics of the final outfit from the big day afterwards.

My sense is (and I'm sure I'll be clonked over the head and corrected if wrong) that red is considered an almost neutral colour for flashes, so you could wear them with whatever tie you select.

I prefer the grey jacket & vest.

I'm pretty confident that there is only one jacket and one photo (posted twice with different contrast or darkness). Either that, or that is the best placement of two garments ever!

I would go with a yellow or mustard (even light green or red) shirt with a bow tie. Drop the waistcoat if wearing a long tie. I think white shirts are more formal/stuffy, but that's a personal problem ;)

Any of the options here are fine.

If it were me attending a non-formal wedding, I'd go with a traditional look that would entail a slightly modified version of the options. The tweed jacket, kilt, red flashes, and green hose are all good. I'd switch the formal sporran that is pictured for a leather day sporran. The white shirt is OK, but one with a subtle tattersall, gingham, or Bengal stripe would be more interesting and not quite as formal. I'd also pick a tie to complement or contrast with the other colours of the outfit, rather than trying to be all matchy-matchy.
