Extra yard option for B & S Casual?
Kilt/board newbie here -- please forgive me if this is a common question.
I'm about to order one of the Casual kilts on sale at Burnett's & Struth, and was wondering if the extra yard option(5 yards instead of 4) would make a significant difference for someone with a 34" waist. I'd be getting a 16-oz tartan.
Thanks!

You won't really notice it with your waist size.
I have 2 B&S casuals in a 36" waist.
I might mean a couple of extra pleats or slightly deeper pleats, but that's all.
Not as noticeable as going to a 8yd kilt
Of course, that's only my $0.02 and others may disagree

Yeah, this is the measurement to watch, however, even when I had a 34" waist (30.5" now :P) and 40" hips, I had a standard size. Anything over 44" is where you're looking to add cloth.

You ask a good question for which there is no definitive answer for everyone. You will have to decide whether it is worth the extra cost for the extra yard.
My 4-yard heavyweight B&S casual kilts have 15 pleats. My 5-yard heavyweight B&S casuals have 20 pleats. Their waist is 41.5" and hips 42". I prefer the look and feel of the 5-yard kilts, but in hotter weather the 4-yarders are lighter and "feel" cooler. Otherwise, they are the same to me.
Good luck on your decision, ... and welcome to the forum!
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I think 4yds is better suited to a box pleated kilt, whereas 5-6 yards are better for lower yardage knife pleated kilts.
Just my $.02

I have a B & S 4yd casual that I really like. However, I will order a 5yd next time. I'm at a 43' hip.

My own $0.02
B&S couldn't sell these at $400 because of the number of kiltmakers selling casuals for far less. They drop the cost to $200 but add a 1 yard option for $75 to get the price back up.
Pretty smart IMO
***Caveat: I am a fan of B&S as noted in post #2***

Thanks to everyone who answered!
I've been doing some more research on this site, including the "Of kilts and yardage" article, and decided to stick with the 4 yard version. I'll just put the cost difference towards my next kilt.....
