    Formal kilt to officiate wedding.

I will be officiating a wedding in a few months and the idea of performing the wedding in formal kilt has been discussed. I have worn a "clergy tartan" kilt with a tab and full collar before, but not to do a wedding. I do have a Prince Charlie and a Montrose outfit. I usually wear a pulpit robe or suite. What about a stole.

We have a few clergy members on our forum, I would expect one to chime in soon. Since I presume that the happy couple is expecting to see your kilt wear what you normally would up top the kilt is just better looking and more comfortable pant equivalent
    and welcome

I may be a bit of a curmudgeon, but I would say if you normally wear a pulpit robe as a sign of office, then I would wear your pulpit robe to conduct the service of worship. On special days I have worn my kilt to worship - and under my robe. It is nice that the couple knows of your interest in the kilt and is supportive of it but just as the tartan is a powerful symbol of nation and family, so are your ecclesiastical garments.

That's my opinion... but I am aware it is just that.

Best of luck in your decision making.

Different denominations have different expectations, but my robes go on top and the kilt is only revealed at the reception. Robert has said it well.

Thank you all. I needed a conformation on my thoughts on the matter. The brides mother suggested the kilt for the service. The kilt will be reserved for the reception and I will stay with the robes and stole for the ceremony.

At my son's wedding all the groomsmen were in kilts. The minister, who is a member of our clan, wore his kilt and Prince Charlie, under his clerical robe. He also wore a stole in our tartan. The only problem was that the wedding was in an outside amphitheater on July 30, in the mountains of NC where it was extremely hot and humid.
