Going to party in kilt but need help

Hi Everyone!!! I'm going to a informal school type party with a few friends and we all agreed to wear a kilt! The problem I'm having is what would I wear with a kilt that looks nice but does not require a kilt jacket and such... maybe a vest but that's about as formal as I should and can get.... I have a 5yrd blackwatch kilt that I love and a few sporrans that I have made and cream (not white) hose with flashes..... should I wear a nice black or white dress shirt with nice black shoes? or go out and buy one of those ghillie shirts? or something else? please help!! (not begging just asking sincerely hehe)
I drink coffee and pretend to know what I am doing.

PLEASE no Gillie shirt. They're a costume, not Scottish.

Try a simple check like this:

It's much more typically Scottish, and you probably have (or should have) one in your closet anyway.

haha I do! and I figured most would say that about the gillie shirt since its blackwatch tartan but lighter hose should I shoot for lighter or darker color? (multiple shirts)

Just go to your closet and pick a shirt.

Then find a pair of hose that color coordinate with the shirt.

and what every shoes you would normally wear to an event like this.

The kilt is not a uniform and there is no proscribed accessories. Just what is comfortable.

And don't worry about matching the colors used in the kilt.

I think a cream, gold or pastel blue shirt would look great with the Black Watch tartan. Drop the tie, unless yours is an evening event at a more classy place than a pub. Like Father Bill and Steve, I'd forgo the vest as well. As you state, you will be among friends your own age.
