A good do all kilt
I do a little bit of barefoot hiking and am looking for something that will hold up to the thorn bushes I regularly come in contact with while in the woods. Also would like one that still works well in a relaxed casual situation, like going out to grab some food or shopping. I'm at a $100 budget for this one. I'm eyeballing a Bilt Kilt and the new UT Wild outdoor kilt. I'm just not 100% sold on either. I know at that price range I'm gonna sacrifice something. Just looking for something to beat around in at a fair price that will hold up reasonably well.

My recommendation would be a canvas kilt from Buzz Kidder. They're tough, look fine in casual urban settings, work well out in the brush, and are far more traditionally kiltlike in construction than, say a Utilikilt.

Thank you for the great 3rd option. That's more of what I was looking for.

At 80 bucks that UT Wild outdoor kilt looks pretty sweet.

It's not as bad as it sounds...usually.

Bare feet and thorns are normally mutually exclusive in my book! But, as you have the experience, I'll have to take your word for it.

The thing with compromise is that often you end up with something that does various jobs, but none of them well.

I don't actually believe that you can get a kilt that will cover all eventualities. That is why I have more than one kilt.

Scotfree... it's not that bad. I've stepped on thorny plants, like raspberries, more than a few times. While they do hurt a little, they're not horrible. Once you get some callousing on your feet it's bearable. You know they're there so you just tread lighter.
Chas, I know I'm gonna have to sacrifice something. I'm not looking for a perfect kilt for all occasions, just something for a couple like outdoors and casual stuff.
