Heavy weight SWK
I have been debating purchasing a heavy weight swk or a tank but I am trying to find out what the weight of the wool used in the swk is and how it compares to a more traditional tank. as well as how the HW-SWK compares to the standard swk? Thanks for the assistance.

The heavyweight seems to be made from 12-13 oz. wool. They feel great, even if they have nowhere near the heft of a 16 oz. tank. The standard is acrylic. It is a good feel, and wears well, but not the feel of wool.

That is a question that has been asked many times here, indeed even by me recently. I have a HW Black Watch and it is 16oz. I believe the others are 13oz but i could be wrong. Either way you cannot go wrong by ordering a SWK heavy weight. They are far beyond worth it for the money. I have worn mine out to the pub several times, just out running errands, and just recently to a 5 day fest where it rained the entire time. I simply hung it up and the kilt looks like i just took it out of the package. I dont have a standard, but i do own a couple PV kilts, and there is no comparing the difference in fabric. If you have the funds get the wool.

The heavy weight SWKs are worth every penny! The one I have appears to be 13 oz., I don't have a tank to compare it to, but it is quite smashing (if I do say so myself). Here I am wearing it at my senior prom:

The SWK Heavy Weight is a lot of kilt for the price.

For the price, you can't beat a SWK heavyweight.(pluis the fabulous service gets tossed in for free). I've got two SWK wool kilts. One is the Weathered Lamont and it is a 16oz kilt, the other is the SWK solid green and Jerry said that it was a 13ozer. Love 'em both and wear them a lot. Am in the Weathered Lamont right now as a front is moving through our area and the temp is supposed to fall to the 30's tonight. Had snow this am, and OMG it is June 11th. Oh well, you really can't go wrong with any of the SWK's.

Thanks for all the advice, nice pic at the Prom. I think I am going to have to get a couple of the heavyweight wool then, they seem to be about the best for the money. I can either get about 3/4 of a tank or 3 heavy weights from SWK. thanks everybody.

This is just my opinion, however, if I could afford 3/4 of the price of a tank, I'd wait and save up the last 1/4. From what I have heard, the tanks can basically go to war and back, as well as remain in your family for generations.
However, something about having variety also speaks to me...

Yeah... That's about where I'm at.
Seriously, the SWk heavyweights are excellent, espcially for the price. If you can a tank, that's preferable, as Jerry (the guy who runs SWK) will tell you. But if you want a nice kilt that you can wear without worry too much about getting messed up, then SWK is most deffinately the way to go. I have three standards and one heavyweight, and have to say the heayier ones are the way to go for cooler weather, and the standards are great for that hot as h**l weather mentioned previously. I made the mistake of wearing my heavyweight to a festival last August and actually had to leave early as a result! So which one is better all depends on the intended use I would say. Either way, you'll get a lot more kilt for your money than you expect.
