How good is SWK???
Me again.
I've been wanting a SWK for a while now, the Nightstaker is really tempting, but I've only worn traditionally hand-made kilts before. And the one *modern* kilt I bought is a *tropical* kilt. Feels more like a skirt to me...
On the *tropical* kilt, the pleats are about 3/4". not much swing...
I know the pleats on the SWK is about 3" but the acrylic fabric is bit scary...
How is the feel different from wool ??? Or do we feel it at all ???
I know some of you guys own a SWK, how does it differ from a tank???
Thanks

I cannot tell you how it differs from a tank, cause I don't have a tank. But I will say this, I have a SWK standard it is my favorite kilt so far. I like the way it looks and feels. It is also lighter fabric I believe, and I can tell you that on a hot day in Florida it is a wonderfully cool garment.
Customer service with SWK is second to none. His shipping is also the fastest recorded by man or beast. Legend has it that he used magical unladen swallows that have an insanely high air speed velocity. By the time you click "order", the things are in the air.
For $80, I would give them a shot. A lot of people, me included, swear by SWK. I know I will be ordering an Irish National from him as soon as he gets my size in, as well as other kilts if he continues to expand his line. Nightstalker is one that is also being considered, especially since my wife has mentioned that it is a very sharp tartan.

I don't own a Tank either, nor ever likely to, unless some distant relative dies and leaves me a fortune to play with.
Many of my Kilts are Stillwater. Perfect for my finances, excellent service, great product, and magical delivery. Lots of good comments from strangers.
My Standard Nightstalker arrived yesterday. Usually takes two days....
I am definitely a Stillwater fan. (Also love Frugal Corner!)

Stillwater standards are definitely different that a handsewn traditional kilt. The material just doesn't have the same weight. I own wool kilts, I own Polyviscose kilts, I have owned acrylic kilts, and I have seen and inspected a few stillwaters owned by friends. I like to think that I have seen and experienced a big range of kilt styles and materials.
Stillwaters are not a traditional kilt for an incredible price, but they are a great kilt for wearing on a day to day basis. The weight is quite different as is the fit and the swing (there is a reason tanks cost more). The term "tank" came about because when you are wearing a traditional handsewn Scottish kilt you can just feel the difference, you feel indestructable. Stillwaters feel light and the material does not have the same hang or swing.
For the price of a stillwater kilt you are not getting a traditional wool kilt, but you will get a really good product and impeccable customer service that is praised by everyone.

I wore only wool kilts for a long time, and wouldn't have dreamed of wearing an acrylic kilt. I've since changed my mind. I get a lot of use out of my SWK and FC kilts, and I find them a good alternative to my wool ones.
The material is way lighter than wool if you weigh it, and I find the acrylic kilts feel lighter. The material, though, is in some ways more comfortable to wear. It does feel different than wool. I'm happy with my SWK. YMMV.

They are worth what you pay for them. I've never ordered an SWK and been disappointed with what I got for the money I paid. Are they on a par with a $500+ kilt? Of course not. On the other hand, I am willing to wear a $30-$80 kilt a whole bunch of places I wouldn't be willing to wear a $500+ kilt.

You're going to have a very hard time finding someone here that doesn't like SWK. Most of us have alot of good things to say about the seller.
I have several of their kilts and even the cheaper "economy" kilts are really, really nice. The material certainly isn't wool, but it's heavy enough to stay down in a good wind and its not itchy at all. They simply sell very comfortable kilts, which I must say are very well made for the money spent.
I have never been disappointed with anything I purchased from SWK.
