Is this jacket appropriate for a wedding ?

    Hi all,

I am attending a co workers wedding in June, it will be a scottish/italian wedding. The groom and his party will be kilted and a good majority of guests on his side also.

I was planing on wearing this jacket -

I believe it's going to be a day wedding, so is this jacket appropriate ?

Side note - to be worn with a Black Watch kilt would love some ideas on hose colors also.

For a day wedding? I'd say it's perfect.

Tan hose would go with the jacket. Green or black would go with the kilt. What color shirt and tie are you planning to wear?

If I was to go with Lovat Green hose, what tie and shirt would be suggested ? or should I try to match the coat to the hose ?

So many variables when it comes to wearing a kilt, honestly that's what I love about it lol

I was planning on wearing a BW tie seeing as it would be separated from the kilt with the waist coat.

It's a wedding, so you should wear a white shirt. The jacket is a neutral, so just about any tie would work and hose from lovat blue to purple to brick red would all look great with a Black Watch kilt.

    Last question....

As far as sporrans, I have a pure white one which I find horrible and a grayish brown rabbit fur one I have from my pipe band. I'd love a brown leather one but time and funds are running out. Also are Ghillie Brogues too much ?

Wear whichever sporran you think looks best -- does someone in your pipe band have another that you can borrow?

As to the Ghillie Brogues, they aren't too much if they are the kind with a leather sole. Otherwise, they really are an outdoor shoe and you're better off with a pair of oxfords.

Almost anything would do. A shade of green or blue would be safe. A dark brown would be awesome.

*cringe* Don't get caught up in matchy-matchy! Matching the hose to the jacket would be trying too hard.

As for the shirt and tie, personally, I don't see the need for a white shirt. But the buttons on the jacket seem to suggest that it's dressy enough that a white shirt would be the safest option. On the tie, it doesn't matter. Bright red. To accentuate your garters/flashes. I would definitely not wear a black or other dark tie with that jacket, though, as it would look strange.

My personal opinion, yes, ghillie brogues would be too much. On the sporran, you should be able to find a plain black "day sporran" fairly cheap, and it's always a safe option.

I was think of blue hose, but dark brown would be nice with that jacket, and a tie with blue and brown or green and brown would round out the picture. A white shirt would not be my first choice, but ecru would be good or even a pale blue or green shirt, depending on the tie.
