Kids flashes
Searched but can't seem to find the answer...
Can you get kid size hose flashes?
I know hire shops have them but can't seem to find a place to buy them - may just be our search engine but...

Re: Kids flashes
I just picked up some simple ribbon and elastic to make some for my boy (because I couldn't find any that liked for a price that justifies buying them for the three months they'll probably fit).
I'll let you know how it goes.
A number of the forum's sponsors offer them (The Scottish Tartans Museum, Scotweb, etc.).

Re: Kids flashes
So it is just our 'recommended' search engine...
Hadn't thought about the ribbon route...

Re: Kids flashes
There is an ebay seller that has them for around $5 a pair. My wife made my grandson's first set by cutting down an adult pair and attaching it to a iece of elastic ribbon from her sewing kit. After finding the ebay seller, she decided it was easier to buy another set than go to the trouble. Grandson #2 has the ebay set.

Re: Kids flashes
I used narrow ribbon as well, but I used it as both the flashes and the ties as well. I just wrapped it loosely around my son's leg looped it around itself to get it to drop at the angle that I wished and cut a V-shape in the ends of the ribbon. My son is 4 and I found that a ribbon about 3/8" wide looked to be right the right width on his little legs.

Re: Kids flashes
Just use an adult set and roll the flash around the elastic garter 1/2, 1, 1 1/2, or even 2 times to shorten up the length appropriately. They may still be too wide, however. Just a simple thought.

Re: Kids flashes
Of course garter flashes are not essential. No need for wee boys to wear them.

Re: Kids flashes
Martin, my memories of Cub Scout elasticated garters are not good. They were either too tight or too loose - cutting off circulation or my hose falling down.
I would advocate tied garters. I make my own from "woven woollen tape", obtainable from haberdashery or fent shops. The tapes are woven on the bias, so there is some give and natural elasticity. Tie a knot in the end and fray - cheapest garters in the world!
I use one metre per leg and pay 60 pence per metre.

Chas
