kilt length critique...
Hi
I have been experimenting with the length (the drop?) of a PV kit I own but don't seem to have the length right - or is it just me being over critical? In both photos my kilt sits about one inch above my navel.
My first photo (wearing the PC) the kilt measures 23.5 inch, which I think is too long for me. As I said, I was experimenting and had the hem raised (sacrilege I know but it was only a cheap kilt), to 22 inch, which I now think too short. That's the second photo I posted. What do you think about each length?
Can I also ask for a general critique of both outfits? Ideally, I would like an Argyll jacket and waist coat but can't afford one at the moment so I made do with a tweed herringbone jacket and waist coat in the Saxon style that I already have.
PS: In the second photo, I was wearing my kilt to an evening meal (not a black tie event), so I wore my dress sporran rather than my usual black leather one. I've also now bought red flashes and red tie to wear instead of green tie and Gunn tartan flashes.
Sorry but both photos are a little dark so you can't see the tartan properly... it's Gunn Modern

The second photo looks better to me....half way in between the 2 would be my choice.

I think the second photo is better, we all started somewhere, when you can, get an Argyll jacket and you'll be set. You might want to look at the 1 kilt 10 looks thread if you have not already.

I agree with the "more knee" second photo. I find with my own kilt, that I like the extra movement when walking with the kilt higher. I think just touching the top of the knee cap is preferred for many that have nervous energy and tend to move around a lot.
A 22.5 drop may be your best number.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the length in the second picture is still a little too long for my preference. I think the longer jacket has the effect of lessening the amount of kilt showing, so maybe it makes the kilt look shorter than it is?

The first photo is foreshortened (a term used by we illustrator/artist types), so the kilt length appears longer than it actually is. The second photo shows the true length, which looks correct.

I agree with the majority, second pic looks better. If it is a little short could you loose the waist and let it ride a little lower? "Split the difference" so to speak.

The length in the second one looks about right to me - certainly don't go more than an extra half inch. Might depend how it lies when you sit.
What does your fine lady think?
