Kilt Pin.......Where?
May I ask, exactly where should the pin be placed on the apron? When is it too high, too low, too close to the edge, too close to the middle, etc? I'm sure there is no exact prescribed placement but would like to hear your learned opinions and preferences. Thank you for your kind assistance.

About 3'' from the bottom, 3'' from the end of the apron is one standard way of doing things. I've never been much on kilt pins, but have worn them on occasion. If I can, I like to find a land mark on the tartan (a nice place where some lines intersect, for example) that's in about the right spot and place the pin over that. It makes the pin look like it belongs there... Just a couple of thoughts.
Also, I'm sure you've heard it before, but be careful of the kilt pin. Only pin it through the top apron and make sure you don't catch it on anything! My dad's red Ross kilt has a nice rip, from just such an occasion.

I tend to put mine about 2" from the right edge and about 3-4" from the bottom. What I like to do is place it so that it works with the lines of the tartan.

As Ryan says be careful to only put the pin through the top apron. Also, you might want to use a small piece of rubber band, put the pin through the apron, then through the rubber band and then back out through the apron. The rubber band will hold the kilt pin it it comes loose from the bottom clip.
Place the pin where it look good on you and the kilt. Low and toward the edge. I don't like mine to far to the side. I catch it on things as I walk by. So I put my kilt pin almost in front of my leg.

Thanks. That's exactly what I needed. The tip about the rubber band will come in handy too.
This week end will be the first time I wear my new kilt but I think I've got a pretty good handle on the finer points thanks to the august members of this and the other board. The tartan is Blair modern and the kilt was made by Ann Stewart of the Catskills. This weekend is the Honolulu Scottish Festival and I'll have the Clan Blair Society table there.

I know the rule of thumb is to only put it through 1 layer, but on windy days, I put it through both. I find it keeps me a little more *ahem* confidential.

On windy days I just wear my 22 oz. Black Watch. It doesn't matter if i wear a kilt pin or not. That apron ain't going nowhere.
