    Kilt without sporran...yes or no

Is it wrong to wear a kilt without a sporran? I plan on doing it tommorrow.

It's not wrong. I personally don't like the look of one without a sporran, but that's personal taste.

It's okay without, just make sure you have somewhere else to put your belongings.

The Cincinnati Hibernians wear them without sporrans (at least they did in '05). The only kilt I wear without sporran has deep cargo pockets.

Hmm...ok. I'm planning on wearing my kilt along with a pair of combat boots and a guinness shirt. :P

The only time I take my sporran off is when I'm in my classroom. Otherwise, when I strap on my kilt, I also strap on my sporran.

I only would if I was doing athletics. Otherwise I don't like the look without a sporran and need somewhere for my keys, phone, money, wallet....

At work I take it off. At home I take it off. Otherwise, I need it for my stuff.

I don't think a kilt looks right without a sporran. I'd never do it.

I don't like the feel of wearing a sporran in front of me. So, I might wear one to look more traditional, but I much prefer not to.

I have noticed a lot of people wear kilts without sporrans at Irish festivals here in this part of the US, so I would not be bothered by it in that context. AFAIK I have no Scots blood anyway, only English, Irish and possibly a touch of Flemish (and I'm English, not American, so there's less expectation of me being such a mixture!).

That said, you need somewhere to carry things. You can get traditional kilts with pockets and I do have one like that. I also have a "Sport Sporran" (Sport Kilt's fanny pack) which is easily moved between the front and the side (as you have probably guessed, I prefer the side), and I do actually have a proper sporran, I just don't like wearing it!

I must say I was puzzled by a couple of guys at one Irish festival wearing great kilts (yes, I know, those were never worn in Ireland, although the modern kilt has been worn there since the 19th century) who appeared to have no visible place to carry anything atall. I wondered whether they had stuffed all their belongings into their girlfriends' bags, which would be decidedly cheating!
