Kilted wedding coming up...

I was recently asked to officiate a wedding where the groom will be kilted and the groomsmen will be wearing ties that match the grooms tartan (MacLeod). As it is a black tie optional wedding, I was going to wear a BBASB with waistcoat and my Clergy ancient kilt and tie. The question on my end is what color hose and flashes? I have matching tartan, but am trying to avoid being matchy-matchy.

I wonder, are you overthinking all this? Anyway, the usual standby of bottle green hose and blue flashes, might be a thought. Or, perhaps claret hose and blue flashes? If it were me, I would forgo the tartan tie too.

I officiated a wedding back in April and wore black socks with flashes that matched my kilt. Everyone told me I pulled it off beautifully. To me, it's subtle enough you can pull it off without it being over the top matchy-matchy.

Emphasis in these threads is always on personal opinion, w/o judgment. Were I the officiant, I, like Jock, would choose a non-tartan tie.
I have not yet been asked to wear a kilt as an officiant, but wear clergy tartan more than any other. My choice for hose would be purple
with claret garter ties, or conversely, claret hose with purple garter ties. That's muchly a visual choice, but the purple does carry episcopal
overtones. And, for my eye, superior by far to black. Though I would back Jock's choices as well.

I would be inclined to go with black socks or ones that are similar to the waistcoat, matching flashes if I had them and ditch the tie for a clergy shirt with collar, probably a royal blue or purple. I have no idea what a bbasb is so I can't speak to that

What Derosa said... I did the exact same thing. Flashes matched my kilt on black socks, and a solid color tie matching a color from the tartan as well. I've attached a pic for reference.

I like the claret hose with tartan flashes and different tie color combo. If not the tartan flashes, then a different combination of matching tie and flashes (such as golden or steel grey) with purple hose. This well keep you neutral to the wedding party but a distinct member of the ceremony.

A BBASB is a Black Barathea Argyll Jacket with Silver Buttons, like below. (Personally I do not like the acronyms sometimes used on this site for this very reason)

I would forgo the tartan tie and go with a solid colour tie, my first thought would be a blue or black, this would match with the tartan and serve to blend in rather than stand out. I would say the same for the kilt hose.

Thanks for that clarification, it is going to be hard to remember.
I think its important as an officiant to not try to be too flashy, with the vest, jacket, and tie will you be better dressed then the groom? Although that might be appropriate attire for a wedding I almost think it might be too much, just my opinion.
