Kilts on eBay
found this on eBay, and some other from this seller. Anybody have an opinion? Price looks good, but concerned it is too good to be true.
Auld_Argonian, they are located in Lemont, is that near you?

Caveat Emptor (Latin for "You Will Be Disappointed")
Three words of advice: BEWARE THUMP MUSIC.
I had the misfortune of winning an eBay auction for a TM kilt. The quality is low. The measurements were off. You get what you pay for ... in this case, a pretty cheesy kilt.
I've read comments in other forums (maybe this forum, too), and my experience with Thump Music is not unique.
If you're okay with that, go ahead and bid (probably at 2-4" above your regular waist measurement). Just don't, like, get into a bidding war with someone; these kilts just aren't worth it.

If you look at their store you see they sell a lot of kilts...one of those places that bids out the basic tartans available from the acrylic mills in different sizes. So the 32" Stewart is bid one place, the 34" Stewart another place, the 36" Stewart still another...etc. for the other basic tartans.
Material is acrylic...funny way to list the weight in grams per yard. If my conversion is near correct that's about an 8 ounce material...very light.
Looks like you've already received some good advice. The prohibition against locals picking up the kilt seems another red flag.

I've looked at that one several times. It was the negative feedback the guy got that put me off. Also, like Riverkilt said why list the weight in grams? The only reason I could think was because they thought you wouldn't do the conversion. Just too many red flags.

Ugly Bear has pretty much hit the nail on the head.
Unless you're built like a block (no butt/hips) these things just don't hang right. The waist sizing is essentially identical to the "breech," and any time you cinch one up more than the other, you will have "bunchage" of fabric.
If you're curious about these, I think you can find one even cheaper than thumpmusic's, and from what I have read in other locations, this seller is a good one to give a wide berth.
Good luck, keeping searching. Sometimes there are some real wool kilts that come up for sale on ebay in the size range that you are probably looking at, so I'd recommend saving up a couple of hundred, and trying that route. But, if you must, then I wish you best o' luck. . .

Thanks all!
About what I figured, and I did not catch the part about no local pickups when I first looked. That makes no sense, even if there is not true store to go to. I will keep searching as I am doing now, and when the itch gets real bad, I will maybe pick up another SW standard. Not much more money and decent quality. At least until I get my USAK. Then I might be in trouble based on other's reactions to a traditional kilt.

Well, I believe you, but I got a great kick around kilt from them. Cheap, lightweight, length was a bit shortish, but worn at the jeans waist it works fine. The fabric is comfortable and holds a decent pleat. The front apron is not tapered, but only a kilt wearer is gonna really notice. And it's They got it to me FAST. It's certainly not dressy, but it's great for knocking about the house or hitting a café.
I had a seamstress sew the pleats down over the hips for $7; considering how cheap this kilt was, I got a great deal.

In KCW's case, I believe he's looking for something for the office. Even if he gets as lucky as you have, he won't get anything quite up to snuff. He'll go from being the Cool Kilted Guy at Work to being an object of derision and pity. A kilt from Thump Music will destroy his career.

E-bay kilts
kepp looking on e-bay ...I found a great buy on there awhile back( by awhile back I mean 4 years ago ) but then I didnt have internet for a long time so now I'm looking again
I got a 22oz military( gordon highlanders ) kilt , a prince charlie jacket, sporran, spats , ghillies, diced "half" hose( no feet so you can wear regular socks under them) and a glenngerry w/ the gordon highlanders badge on it for $500 so it IS possible to find great deals ...just keep looking!

Holy smokes Batman look at all those negatives!
I would not buy from this guy!
His feedback has 129 neg in this year alone, not good and he seems to be pinging his customers with bad feedback as well.
Pay the extra $30 bucks and get a Stillwater. I STRONGLY suspect you will be happier.
