Is it legal and in good taste? Gordon no. 3
Hello,
I'm new here. I know next to nothing about kilts, only a bit from surfing. I've not yet bought a kilt but I have fallen in love with one in a military dump shop. New, with holding stiches. It fits perfectly.
It's a Gordon & Sons No. 3. Its the real makoy. It has a NATO number on the lable.
My questions are....
1. Is it legal for a civilian to wear this kilt informally in the UK?
2. Is it in good taste to do so, or would it cause offence?
Thank you, Saul

Yes, perfectly 'legal' - I could be witty and point out that they were only banned for a few years in the 1700s but I shalln't.
Good taste.... Well, if you mean will a squaddie from a Highland Regiment take exception. I doubt it, unless you put on a whole load of other military kit. In which case they might think you were a bit weird, but probably not be offended.
Good taste.... Well, it depends on what else you wear with it. Much of the activity on this forum is about questions of taste. I think you'll find that UK wearers tend to be more conservative in their dress sense than those from the US.
Hope that helps.
BTW, I had one too for a while, though in the end I sold it (perhaps rashly) because I got too hot in it.
Graham.

I should be fine, it is legal and it is in fine taste, I wear the Gordon Highlander kilt myself.

You're in luck! It is both totally legal and in good taste. Wear it well.

Oh. Then I will be in good company. It is so heavy. 8 yards all pleated, such workmanship.
