    Little advice please

If i order a kilt how much play in it do I have. I mean if i order it at 36 waist if i drop down to a 34 will i be ok. On my Pv kilts like my irish national it is a 34 and im mid to past halfway on leather straps. But measured my self with fabric tape and i was 36 so dont understand, just want to be certain as im planning to order a tank when i get back to work after christmas. Feedback will be greatly appreciated.

The only advice I can give is this - Get someone else to measure you.

My own experience is that you have an inch or so in either direction by adjusting the buckles. After that you move the straps & buckles to get a couple of more inches (search online here for instructions) and after that, you're likely looking at a rebuild.

Be sure to follow the measuring instructions provided by whoever is going to make your kilt. Different kilt makers use different measuring methods. And as Chas said, have someone help you take the measurements. Good Luck!

Just to echo the previous advice... for proper fit, the most important thing is knowing how YOUR kilt maker wants you to be measured. They can order whatever tartan you decide to get. I would figure put who you want to make your next kilt.

Be careful with the tailor you choose. He may be an expert on measuring non-Scottish clothing, but know little about measuring kilts. For example the waist on kilts is located differently than on pants. The tailor may not know that. Heed the advice of previous posts, ie strictly follow the instructions given to you by whomever you choose to make your kilt. And, good luck.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Another thing, remember that some makers label differently. I have seen some indicate that the stated size is measured at the middle hole of the straps, giving an inch and a half or two smaller or larger; others that measure at the tightest setting, allowing more up, but
no down. I guess expectation is we're more likely to increase in size than decrease, and on the whole, factual. Covered in measuring as your chosen maker suggests, but a reminder there's more than just where to put the tape.
