Lookin for a "do all" tweed jacket

Im looking at my kilts & trying to decide what tweed jacket & waistcoat I should be looking at.

My heart says I should get a charcoal because it will go with everything & nothing looks better than a 3 piece.
Would there be a better looking option to go with 3 kilts?

I think a charcoal with gauntlet cuff and antiqued square buttons would be my first choice,or maybe lovat green or blue with gauntlet cuffs and antler buttons.

I agree with Cable. For those kilts, I'd probably go with the Charcoal first then the lovat green with matching hose second.

Keeping in mind that colors in the jacket do not need to remotely "match" anything in any of your kilts, charcoal does indeed work for anything. My own choice was a Harris tweed fabric that, depending on the lighting conditions, could be taken for charcoal or a much lighter bluish-grey, but (as is common with Harris tweed) has flecks of a lot of other colors in it as well.

Here it is up close, indoors:

    And outside in sunlight:

And "zooming out" for a bit of distance, in the afternoon on an overcast day:

One of these days I will have a grey (lighter than charcoal) Harris Tweed jacket and vest.

    Wow, Dale! Smashing.

I agree with the lads above. Charcoal first. That is what I am leaning toward as well for my first kilt jacket.

It's amazing how different light sources can change the entire appearance of some tweeds. I've got a green/brown/black jacket that plays the same tricks on the eyes. Wonderful stuff.

As to the OP question, my vote goes for gray as well. Even better, see if you can get some sample fabric to lay across your kilts, or visit a shop, if handy.

I forgot that I had this pic. tryin tweed jacket.jpg
I tried on this jacket & waistcoat some time ago at Freedom. Its not as flash as Dale's, but it does watch the charcoal kilt. If only itll still be there when I have the money to buy it.
