looking for opinions on manufacturers
okay so browsing site and such I have been looking a MacPherson Dress for my upcoming wedding and i came across this site that had many kilts for only $61 or $95 for heavier weight. but basically I'm wondering if anyone has purchased or know of some one who has purchased on from this site. I don't have a ton of money but don't want to buy a cheap kilt that is going to fall part a few months down the road. i was planning on getting one from USAkilts made up but ti would be ALOT more expensive so I was just wondering what people thought on the differences manufacturers. now obviously i know that USA kilts produces quality kilts but I'm more so wondering if nay one has heard of this site or has gotten one of these kilts.

I'm sure others here have kilts from the fsrugal corner. I see them recommended when looking for low cost with reasonable quality. I do NOT have one for comparison--i have a USAK kilt which fits perfectly.
I can understand making your pennies stretch as far as possible. I would certainly stay within budget and get the best kilt you can afford. There are other kilt makers in the forum as well...you can price shop some and consider the timeline. I noticed, depending on the stock sizes offered in your links(which incidentally would NOT fit me), that you could be waiting up to 8 weeks on backorders! Check the links at the top of each forum page here. If you look enough, you'll find others here too that do not advertise...but VERY good. You certainly have plenty of choices so make a good informed decision and remember...get the nicest kilt you can afford.

Congrats on the upcoming nuptials!
I have heard good and bad things about frugal kilts but have never seen anyone wearing one, to the best of my knowledge.
If you could possibly manage it, get a better quality kilt that will last past your wedding day. Plus, you want something that will look nice. Remember, you want to get the hips right as well, not just the waist and length, so it hangs correctly. Hopefully it is the only time you get married, so you might as well look good!
When you get down to it, for a nice, custom-made USAK Casual you would not be paying much more, percentage-wise) than you would for frugal kilt. I personally much prefer PV to acrylic, and you can't beat Rocky's service.
Good luck on your search!

I own a Frugal Kilt in a Heavyweight and I like it very much. In addition I also own a Heavyweight Stillwater and a "The Works" Sportkilt. All 3 of these are considered inexpensive options and I wouldn't even try to comapre them to a USAK (which I do not own personally but have seen up close), even a casual. Of the 3 kilts I own the Stillwater is probably of the highest quality. The Frugal Corner kilt, despite being "Heavyweight" is still a fairly lightweight material (the lightweight isn't much heavier than a high quality t-shirt). My FC kilt is about 6 months old and wearing very well. I am not a full-time kiltie, but still manage to kilt up at least 5-8 times a month on average.
If it were me knowing it was for my wedding, I think I would still figure out how to get a USAK from Rocky. My FC is probably my favorite kilt right now, but for a wedding in which I was anything more than a guest I think my first choice would be a USAK followed by a Stillwater Heavyweight. The biggest drawback to Stillwater is the lack of tartan selections, I do not believe they have your MacPherson Dress.

My only suggestion is to make sure you know what the kilt is made out of---in this price range either PV or acrylic. Choose PV over acrylic any day, as acrylic pills easier, and is reportedly flammable in certain situations (imagine someone dropping a lit cigarette on your lap), and at the very least more meltable. Wool is the fabric of choice if you can afford even a casual wool kilt I would go that route.
Just my tuppence.

I don't know what the costs might be, but what about renting a high quality top-of-the-line for the wedding and then buying something perhaps more affordable for ongoing wear? I wouldn't want to see you looking less than peacock-perfect for your bride.

I like Father Bill's idea. I would add perhaps to rent just the kilt and jacket and purchases some nice colored kilt hose and shoes of your choice, instead of rental hose and ghillie brogues. That way you have useful and durable goods that you will use again when you do have the budget to purchase your kilt. You may not save much money on the rental cost by deleting a few items, but will avoid the rental catalog look.
Congratulations on your upcoming event, best wishes to you both!

Having seen and felt many of the low cost kilts ( kiltmart, frugal corner, Stillwater heavyweight, and USA kilt casual) USA Kilt is the best option. Second is still water but as said above USA-K is on another level. For a wedding on a budget go for USA Kilts casual kilt or even Skye Highland outfitters has a 5 yard casual PV kilt for about $115
The more i think about it the purchase of accessories and renting the kilt sounds like a good option also. I don't know what that would cost.

Its your wedding. You can have any two of price, quality, or service.
This board is thick with stories of grief with the kilt not arriving in time. Find a way to deal direct with a kiltmaker. Spring for a hand sewn wool kilt - maybe someone will make it a wedding gift for you.

Congrats to a MacPherson cousin! I own 3 kilts in the clan tartan: Hunting (USAK casual), Weathered (Burnetts & Struth casual) and Red (USAK semi-trad). Sorry I don't have any input on the Frugal Corner, but if I was going to be wearing the kilt for my wedding (which sadly I won't, but that's another story) I'd feel confident and proud to strap on with the USAK semi-trad or the casual from B&S. All the kilts are wonderfully made and fit perfectly, but the semi-trad has the extra pleats to bring it up a notch and the B&S casual is in wool. I just looked at their site and they have 2 MacPherson tartans in 16oz wool on sale for $200. More than the FC, but a great deal and good investment...especially for your Big Day.
Best of luck and feel free to PM if you have any questions on the clan tartans...
