Looking for Thomson Camel at decent price
Hey guys and gals -
I am working on putting together an outfit for a Costume club I am a part of. We (meaning me) are forming a "highland brigade", and I am in the need for a decent Thomson Camel tartan Kilt for around the $100 range.
I have looked at Celtic Croft and the Frugal Corner. The main reason for that price range is that I would like to make it affordable for all of my recruits, some of which have never worn a kilt before, and dont have the money to spend on a tank or even a higher end PV.
Thanks in Advance

Usak
Rocky at USAkilts has PV Casuals in Thompson Camel at about $120 each depending on size.
That price will be hard to beat for that tartan. Give 'em a call

I can't offer any recommendations but I might be able to help build the volume. I am a Thomson and one with two grown sons. If someone is willing to offer a deal we might be able to tag on to your order with a kilt or two. Just keep me in the loop.
I like the look of the Camel Thomson, anyone who admires Burberry fashion and style would have to. I don't like that it is a pretty recent invention and more of a "fashion tartan" than a historic one. However, they were all invented sometime by someone and most much more recently than most people realize so maybe we should not worry about it and just be happy our family name is one which has a bunch of tartans tagged with it.

I'm afraid that unless you find an Acrylic kilt made where the labor rate is real cheap that this may be very hard to achieve.
As an example - The fabric alone, if woven by Marton Mills in P/V, would be between $20.00 and $24.00 per yard double width at retail. That comes to between $80.00 and $96.00 jut for the fabric.
Another option would be to find a used ladies skirt in Thompson Camel or Stewart Camel. Then cut it down to a kilt.
I have one here in the shop that came from the Canadian version of the Salvation Army. One of my kiltmakers is altering it for his wife. Total cost was $4.00.
If you could stumble on a deal like this the cost of the skirt would give you some extra funds to spend on your kiltmaker's labor.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

I dont mind acrylic as much as some people do. I prefer PV and of course Wool, but for the purposes I will be using it for, Acrylic will be just fine.
Of course.. i will keep looking, and if the price has to go up, then so be it. I am not against higher priced ones, just seeing if a decent lower price is out there. If SWK carried the Thomson Camel, i would just go back there. I love my Standard from them.

TV, I agree completely with you about SWK standard kilts. I just discovered them trough this forum a few weeks ago and ordered a weathered MacKenzie on sale for $85. I t arrived here in Canada in less than a week and when I opened it I was delighted with the quality for the price. I have been wearing it every evening at home since. My wife actually says she likes the look on me better than my bespoke Canadian made Tank. (I think because the lighter material does not further widen my already ample belly!)
If you can get SWK to make similar kilts in any of the variations of Thomson tartan I would be certainly in for one and spread the word to my extended family.

knowing in advance what it is likely to be...
http://cgi.ebay.com/SCOTTISH-KILT-TH...item439b138fb3
This is the only one listed, but the seller has other kilts and might be able to get you a batch- but they will likely be 3 yard, cheaply made Party Kilts.
NB, some people put the P in Thompson, some do not. Searching both ways is useful.
Some take the high road and some take the low road. Who's in the gutter? MacLowlife
