Lost a few inches, kilt falls off

My cheapie acrylic kilt, even with the straps cinched up as tight as they'll go, still falls off with about 1.5 inches of spare room. Great from a weight-loss standpoint. Bad because now I have a kilt I can't wear. :/

Being that it wasn't custom made, that should be a plus in selling it, maybe? Not sure what to do - I really want to get some money back so I can put it towards a real wool kilt. Any advice on where/how to sell it? eBay? Here? Thanks!

Hard to compare because you can't sell the same kilt twice on two different sites to see how it goes, but here on XMarks, every member loves kilts, whereas on E-Bay, it's harder to find a kilt among all the other "stuff".

Another alternative would be to move the buckles. That is the usual way of making a kilt fit a smaller waist, and is often used by military units and pipes bands to get their members into kilts.

I say give it a try selling it here. Of it does not work, there are Facebook groups to post kilts and accessories for sale where I sold a sporran in two days for asking price. If you're handy enough, you could also try moving the buckles yourself. Paying to have it done might not be worth it on a budget kilt. There's always EBay. I was able to sell two kilts there after they didn't sell here, but one of them took months to sell.

Give it a try on the Sale forum here for the standard duration, and then maybe your Facebook marketplace. I've just become aware of that feature through a friend who has been down-sizing with it quite effectively.

I very much appreciate and respect you asking about where best to list your kilt. Not as any criticism, since you're doing it right, but as a reminder to yourself and other members lest there be any confusion, the For Sale Subforum has this item posted at the top:

    7. No one may offer an item for sale here, that is also listed anywhere else. If an item is also listed on Ebay, Craigslist or any other commercial site it will be deleted here. If you decide to list on eBay please edit the post with NOW LISTED ON EBAY on the top line

Thank you for following this procedure; you're the best!

Thanks for the reminder. I don't have it listed anywhere, currently, but I will be taking this advice and listing it here in the for sale section.

If you like the kilt, just like as has been mentioned before, can you not just move the straps and buckles?

It is a really easy operation. Especially on a kilt that does not have the internal strength elements.

Just cut off the right side buckles and the under apron strap. Move them to the new location by putting the kilt on and marking where the aprons now overlap. Sew the buckles and the strap back on. You can sew them with a sewing machine like they were originally done, or, if you don't have a sewing machine, by hand.

Or take it to one of those small alteration shops you can find in malls. They could do it in just a few minutes and the cost would be minimal. About as much as to hem up a pair of trousers.
