I just picked up a Maple Leaf (Batleys) 5-yd from Rocky. I LOVE the colors. It is, as you say, very autumnal (there, I used it too, we can punch each other). It is not terribly bright colored, more subdued. I like it a lot. To my eyes, the one in your OP is brighter than mine appears in person. Could be just the monitor or it could be the difference in the mill used to make the tartan.

County Cavan
I think the HOE County Cavan is one my favorite Autumnal tartans (Hey, that is fun to say! )
These hotel photos don't do it justice LT, but I can send you a piece of the cut off if you're interested. The kilt is a creation of our own Bonnie Heather Greene.

That is a nice one too! I didn't even think of the swatch idea...I can send you a piece of the remnant from my Maple Leaf too, if you'd like.

way2fractious, who never posts here any more, wears a weathered Maclaren which is absolutely gorgeous. NOw this isn't way2fractious, and probably the subject of this photograph is an X marker, AND...I love the laundry hanging in the background....but just focus on the kilt.

I have absolutely no connection to the MacLarens at all, but if I did, you can be sure I'd own one of these.
MacMillans son's kilt is gorgeous, BTW, I've seen it a few times.
You might look up the Capercaillie tartan. It's more "earthy" than autumnal... HA, two SAT words in one sentence... but I got it, and I really like it.

If any of the rabble have favorite tartans of this type (browns, oranges, weathered colors) that they'd like to share (photos preferred), I'd love to see them.
The "weathered" tartans (often used synonymously with "reproduction") are really gaining in popularity for that very reason. People just like earthy colours. This is my recently-acquired kilt in Reproduction Colquhoun tartan, which I posted about a week ago, or so. Same colour palette as the one Alan mentioned above. I absolutely love these colours.

That said, if you really want orange and brown, check out the Brittany National Walking tartan. I don't want to post the actual image here, because it belongs to DC Dalgliesh. But it's a lovely combination of perfectly autumnal colours. The image on their site seems a bit brighter than I remember it looking when someone had posted about it before.

Here's my vote, of course being a Macpherson, my selections are indeed biased :
Macpherson 'Weathered' from Lochcarron.

Macpherson 'Reproduction' from D. C. Dalgliesh.

Chattan 'Ancient' from Lochcarron.

Chattan 'Reproduction' from D. C. Dalgliesh.

Chattan 'Ancient' from D. C. Dalgliesh.

Yet, I tend to think of the Buchanan or MacMillan setts in regards to "autumnal" colours.
Cheers,

I not sure of your reluctance to post an image from Dalgleish, it's readily available to everyone who has a computer.
Here it is
The image might be theirs but the tartan isn't and in actual fact the colours on their site are completely different
Here is the picture from the tartan register
and here is a picture of the actual tartan
( from Hamish. )
This is actually a really good example of why it's important not to rely on a computer generated image, there is nothing like having a sample of cloth in front of you before making a decision for a kilt

*shrug* I was just thinking of Steve Ashton's recent warning about posting images from someone else's site when you aren't the copyright holder.
