    mixing tweeds of similar colors?

Now that I have a brown tweed jacket I would like to pair it with my brown tweed kilt. They both have rust & blue stripes, but they arent the same. I know that its a fashion faux pas to mix tartans, but what is the feeling regarding tweeds?

As long as the mixture does not blow out your eyes, then carry on.

Just so you know, the mixing of Clan tartans of different Clans is not a fashion faux pas. It runs far more deeply than that, as offence can be caused by doing so.

[QUOTE=Jock Scot;1219106... the mixing of Clan tartans of different Clans ...[/QUOTE]

:ootd:Well I never. That woyuld be like breading cats with dogs.
Point taken. I was thinking more in terms of mixing dress with hunting or clan with universal.

Those two might work together. I would have to see them worn together to make a final determination.

In that case you are not wrong, but----I repeat BUT------you may know what the respective tartans represent, some on this website might do, the rest of the world will not. So as people are prone to do and most certainly in Scotland, they get on their high horse and shoot! On the whole, whilst doing what you are proposing and the way that you intend doing it, whilst not wrong as such, is best avoided.

Mixing tweeds seems to be very tricky to me, very easy to go wrong... but I've seen it done very well! (By others.)

I have two vintage tweed Argyll jackets and a couple tweed vests (hah! see my thread on that today) but none of them seem to coordinate, to my eye.
