    Mystery Tartan

    Hi All,
I'm wondering if any of you might know what tartan this gown Caitriona is wearing is made from?
I want to make the costume as one of my winter projects.

I'm not seeing your photo but if you are talking about the costumes from Outlander the Tartans were specifically designed for the TV show.

There are three different Outlander Tartans. The three are basically the same. One has a blue line, one a red line and one with no added line. The colors are taken from the same pallett as the Weathered Tartans.
I believe all the fabric woven in these designs are plain weave and of a fairly light weight.

I am pretty sure that The Celtic Croft is one of the authorized sources for Outlander stuff. (One of our Top Banner Advertisers.)

    Mystery Tartan

    Hi Steve,

I have been to the Celtic Croft website and they don't appear to have this particular tartan.
I'm hoping someone might recognize it so I have a name to call it by when getting in touch with suppliers.

My picture seems to be listed as an attachment on the main forum board.
Sorry for the confusion, I am new at posting here and thought I had included the picture in the body of my listing.

I'll get the hang of it, I hope

    Any hints would be appreciated

    Regards
    Kimberly

There are 2 ways to upload pics.

One is to link to a photo that is already on the web somewhere. This can by your website or one of the photo hosting sites. (A caution about using photbucket though. They are now charging an annual fee to link from photobucket to a third site.)

The second way is to upload your photo from your home computer. This is done with the small image icon in the menu above the text window. You choose what photo you want and then you must hit the "Upload" button.

if all else fails send me the photo in an email and I'll upload it for you. steve@xmarksthescot.com

This is awesome, thank you so much.
This is the tartan I am talking about.
I want to see if I can get it before I purchase the wool to make the matching shawl and corset.
Thanks again for your help Steve

    Check http://wooltartan.com/specials/
The first tartan, lost souls, looks to be the same one, they also claim to have designed the outlander tartans.

GK textiles is Gordon Kirkbright. He is indeed the designer of the Outlander Tartans. Many of those who have been around X Marks for a while will recognize Gordon as the former owner of Fraser & Kirkbright Weaving Co. They wove the first, second and third run of the X Marks Tartan fabric.
While Fraser & Kirkbright were still operating they developed a relationship with Ron Moore the director of the Outlander TV series when F&K wove the fabrics used in the new Battlestar Galactica TV show.

This is essentially a colour change of the Johnson tartan.
