New to forum and curious about the x-kilt

In my first post I said that I was making my first x-kilt. I have another question; When figuring the widths of the aprons on an x-kilt, how do you know how wide to make the parts that make up the aprons? For instance, I have a 40 inch rump and I want to make a kilt with eight 3" pleats. I would have to make the apron 16" wide right? How big do I want the under-apron and the under-apron pleat? Is there some kind of formula for this? I might have just missed it in the instruction.

IIRC, the manual suggests making your underapron just an inch or two wider than top apron -- for a 16", which is relatively wide, I'd go 17 for the underapron.

Big pleat should be at least 2x the depth of your regular pleats, again it depends a bit on apron width. With a 16 top apron you can go 8 inches deep on the big pleat with no problem. Make sure you have enough fabric for all that, you can cheat a little on big pleat depth if you get short on fabric.

Have fun and keep us posted!
