New Kilt Advice
I may be looking to have a tank, wool kilt made. Who has advice on where I might get the best deal possible? Thanks in advance.

I guess Rocky has his 8 yd wool kilts made in Scotland as best as I can tell from the USAK site. I have a feeling I am not understanding your question though.
Anyway, I think Rex had one through USAK and posted a thread on it... I can't recall which tartan it was, but he gave a good review.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I'm looking for a great kilt, for the best deal - quality + price = great deal. I probably want MacDonald Modern but haven't decided for sure. So 4 or 5 choices won't do.

For a great kilt it doesn't matter so much where it comes from since it's basically just a big piece of cloth.
You'll want about 5 yards, and the edges should be frayed out. A really good idea is to have belt loops sewn in to facilitate donning the beast. (My doesn't have said loops although William MacIntosh himself tried to tell me better when I ordered it.)
Good luck. And send pix!
P.X. You can just buy a piece of double width tartan and fray the edges yourself.

Pastorsteve,
There seems to be some confusion here. First you've posted your inquiry in the USA Kilts subforum, but you are inquiring about other makers, no? Perhaps you would like the mods to move your thread to the general or traditional forum.
Second, I think when you used the term "great kilt" you meant a terrific kilt, but the phrase can interpreted, as it was by theScot, to mean a belted plaid (the blanket style of DIY kilt worn mostly be reenactors.)
Now perhaps it is I who am confused, but if not, you might want to rephrase your question and get the mods to help.
Best regards,
Jake

I guess that's why even I was having trouble finding it. It was mean to be in Kilt Advice - thanks. As to the kilt - I'm hoping to find a great deal on a new kilt. Not a deal on a "great kilt".

Contact Bob Chalmers At bobilishious@hotmail.com or look at his store on e-Bay. He sells a good machine made 8 yd wool kilt very reasonable. (How much depends on the tartan.) He will work close with you to get exactly what you want.

Hand sewn or partly machine sewn? You said "tank" which would tend to be hand sewn, but... maybe not always.
