    Non-wool hose

Here's another question that I have. I cannot stand wool, at all. Gives me a terrible itch, even if it's a blend with a small percentage of wool. I don't know if I have an actual wool allergy or not but I do know I cannot stand the stuff for clothing.

Is there a source for non-wool hose to wear with a kilt? The kilt is probably going to be made from a darkish blue/green tartan and I'll probably be wearing it with something like (matte black?) combat boots (Gillie Brogues are out of the question).

Another issue is that when I get socks I always makre sure that they are not too long, as the longer models, even if they are still well below the knees, cause my legs to heart due to the elastic band at the top. I don't have overly fat legs but I find socks that go too high up my calves very uncomfortable.

Kilt hose are definitely higher than the socks I normally wear, so the hose themselves, and I guess also the flahses, will have to be wide and loose enough that they don't pinch my calves and cause discomfort.

Maybe I should just get a pair of extra wide knee socks like these:

instead of traditional kilt hose? Or is there a better, more authentic, solution?

I have a couple pair of these. They don't really compare to wool kilt hose in terms of thickness, warmth, stretch, etc., and I honestly don't care for them much. But if you cannot wear wool hose, they are a decent option for a traditional look.

You might also try these cotton/acrylic ones from Sock Dreams. They're not specifically marketed as kilt hose, but they are a good approximation:

Other than that, you can probably find a lot of ultra-cheap imported "kilt hose" on eBay or various places that are 100% synthetic with no wool content.

So they are, I somehow completely missed that. A simple google search for 'cotton kilt hose' brought me right to them. I apparently never looked past the first two options for the hose in the 'pub package' configurator over at usa kilts. Tunnel vision? Anyway, question answered, thank you so much.

I often wear Sondico rugby/soccer shorts with a kilt. These are elasticated and so do not need garters and therefore no pinchpoint to endanger blood circulation.
