    NoVA Dry Cleaner?

On Carolina Kiltman's recommendation I'm pinging the rabble for a little info. I recently had some pleats seriously messed up by a certain dry cleaner in Vienna VA. (rant can be read here if so desired)

With all the folks on here I was hoping that someone in the District/NoVA area would know of a reputable dry cleaner that knows how to treat a kilt.

    Thanks in advance.

Have you considered the cleaning method used by Steve Ashton discussed in his thread "Military Kilt Repairs". He placed the kilt in the bath tub with Woolite and cold water let it soak for a while, changed water until clear and then hung the kilt to dry. If necessary it would require you to press the pleats yourself. Steam, pressure, pressing cloth and you have nice sharp pleats. Search the threads you should be able to find a discussion on how to press pleats.

This is not an attempt to discount your question, but, from what I can tell finding a good dry cleaner who can handle kilts and pleats can be hard.

Another thought, hard to do before the second cup of coffee, do you know someone who has a daughter in a school that requires pleated uniform skirts? They would know who in the area can handle keeping pleats straight.

Good Luck Maybe we should have a sticky thread listing good dry cleaner around the world.
If you see abbreviations, initials or acronyms you do not know the Xmarks FAQ section on abbreviations may help.

Ender, from what I'm finding out from the rest of the rabble, it's safer to hand wash it rather than taking it to the dry cleaner. And if you do take it to be cleaned, to baste stitch down the pleats so they don't have the opportunity to mess them up.

Friday, I did check out that thread, and I'll be hand washing from now on. It's cheaper than paying someone to mess up my kilts.

Should you decide to go the hand wash route, try googling a detergent called Eucalan. Supposed to restore the lanolin in the wool.
