    Packing a kilt

So I have an even tot go to tomorrow and my large suitcase is loaned out. I am stuck with a smaller one and my kilt is too big for it...By a few inches. I lie to keep the kilt flat as possible and I don't have a travel bag or other kilt carrier (unemployment sucks).

    Any ideas?

You could try the "kilt roll" as listed in the tutorials.

I have folded a kilt into thirds after closing the aprons as if it were being worn; then folded it at some point in the fell area while putting a rolled up shirt or something in the folded part to keep it from having a sharp bend. Hang it up and give it some steam or the shower vapor treatment as soon as you are able, and any wrinkles fall out.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

You could leave it on your hangers, I've done that for short trips, in fact, that's what i'm doing when I head up to Albuquerque friday.

Rolled, my kilt fits diagonally in a carry on size case. I have also bent the roll to fit it in a duffle with no ill results.

I have always found the rolled the best way, then a quick hang up and shower
treatment usually takes care of any wrinkles.

The roll works really well as others have mentioned and you can get a cheapie pair of nylon knee highs to put around it once rolled for extra protection. Theses can be found at walmart for a few cents in a little egg thing...

The other way to get it 'small' is to simply FOLD it...

Fold it in thirds like you were wearing it. Then fold it in half at the center of the apron (running vertically) and then in half running horizontally (so the selvedge and the waistband touch).

Depending on your measurements and the style / thickness of your kilt, you should get a square about 14 X 14 X 3

What works really well is a yoga mat bag, just follow the rolling instructions. Thankfully the new found popularity of yoga has brought a benefit to us, you can get these for very little money at Target or any similar store. You can then take it as carry-on, hate to check valuable items as they always seem to disappear.....
