Pleating advice
I am getting a kilt made in the Colorado state tartan. I saw a thread about a Black Stewart that was pleated to the stripe so that the pleats looked like they were burgundy.

I want the same general effect with my Colorado tartan, which looks like this:

What stripe should I ask to get it pleated to to achieve this effect?

Just eyeballing it I believe that I'd pleat it to the sett. Pleating to the yellow stripe would give you lots of white and light green...really pale and at least in my opinion not a very good option. Pleating to the no-stripe (centering the dark green) would lose all the vertical elements and you'd end up with what we call the lawn-chair effect. While I certainly don't think this is a fatal flaw, lots of folks don't care for that particular look. The band pleats in your photo have a strong vertical element in each pleat, which tempers the horizontal striping. Pleating to anything else gives you an asymmetrical pleat, as well as lines which will disappear in the tapered region between the fell and the waist, which is also generally avoided.
I'd go for "to the sett" pleating on this one.

Hey! Congratulations, Hawk. Um ask Barb which stripe.
I've been thinking about this kind of pleating, and gees, you can come up with some really different looking kilts.
What color do you want back there?

I really do like the swing you get from pleating to the stripe. Not every tartan lends its self to this however.

I did it. I pulled that trigger. My bank account is not happy with me. My wife, however, is. It's so much money! I feel like screaming!! Mainly because I also want an Isle of Skye from USAK and it was so hard to choose... I need to get the USAK by summer, though...

Congratulations! What did you decide to do on the pleating?
And it's always good to hear that Mrs. Hawk is happy with you getting another kilt.

That doesn't look like the Colorado Tartan I'm familiar with:

It may be a variant, but it looks to "green"...

I don't know if this has been touched upon, or if it would work. Have you considered setting to the purple stripe? That might look pretty cool. Then again, I'm biased toward purple, so disregard my advise as free and worth every penny!
