    Prince of Wales Tartan

Does anyone in here have a Prince of Wales pleated to stripe? My fiancée is getting me a new kilt for my birthday. We've narrowed the tartan choices down to 4. The Caledonia tartan, Pringle tartan (her clan), the Clergy tartan, and the Prince of Wales tartan. Since the Clergy and the Pringle tartans we can only get in wool, I think they're a little out of her price range. However Rocky at USA Kilts has the Caledonia and Prince of Wales. I don't have a kilt pleated to stripe yet, and would really like to get one. It seems that the Caledonia doesn't pleat to stripe the best, so I may go with the Prince of Wales. (which is the tartan she likes better of the two) any one have a semi-trad Prince of Wales pleated to the white stripe in here? so I can see a pic and check out how it looks in action. or possibly any other suggestions. thanks guys

I'm thinking that the triple white stripe may be too busy for pleating to the stripe. This being said I am only picturing this in my head. As you mentioned a picture would be invaluable.

The only Prince of Wales kilt pictures I've seen were or Ron's (Riverkilt.) I'm sure if you look in his photo album (located in his signature) you'll find them. Though, I believe his is to the sett. Also, keep in mind that Rocky does offer the Clergy/Clarke tartan in PV. So, that is still an option for you there... I say if you want a kilt that looks smashing pleated to the stripe, go for the Gunn!

When photoshoping one should keep in mind thast the exposed pleat is 3/4". What may look pleasing to the eye may end up being twice that. Do you know the size of sett? From that you could figure out how much to crop to replicate the look. It would be nice if they actually had a program to show the swatch pleated to various stripes.

I emailed Rocky and asked for his opinion. I search out the tartans on here as well, Hamish has both the Caledonia and Prince of Wales made by USA kilts. Both look great, but both are pleated to set. I've only found Hamish and Ron with Prince of Wales kilts in posts. I emailed Rocky about the Caledonia pleated to the yellow stripe a few days ago, he said he thinks it would look "OK, not great, but OK" of course I want my kilt to look great though lol as far as the Clark tartan on there, it looks pretty good, but the Clark to me seems to be a bit louder I guess, the white stripe really sticks out more, we as the clergy tartans seems to be a bit darker or muted I guess. I supposed I'll wait for a later date on that one. My parents want to get me a clergy tartan kilt because when either of my sisters get married, they want me to preform the ceremony in the clergy kilt. ha ha, they say its an absolute must.

I have a Prince of Wales PV kilt but it isn't pleated to the white stripe. Although I believe it would look good that way. Have you considered the Clark Tartan it is similar to the Clergy Tartan( on some sites it is identical) USA KILTS does a wonderful job in PV. I have pics of it

It is my wifes Tartan and it looks great! CR66

Billy, As you say, both Ron and I have USA Kilts' Prince of Wales tartan kilts, and both are pleated to the sett, which I personally like very much. I have had a look at the actual kilt and roughly laid it out as if it were pleated to the white stripes and, to be honest, I think it would result in there being too great a contrast between the pleated section and the aprons. Fine if you don't mind that effect, but I don't think I would care for it at all. The choice is ultimately yours however!
