A question of jackets
I've never been acused of being formal but I really like the tweed jacket Panache had modified. My question is what is(are) the difference(s) between a kilt jacket and a tuxedo jacket ??? My Da's old KofC tux jacket is available as is a nice suit type I picked up at Express (oh how trendy) a few years back but don't wear. I'm not sure how to proceed or with which jacket.
Any advice is welcome.

All depends on what the tuxedo jacket looks like? Peak lapels, shawl collar? The MAIN differences are the length, vents and cutout.

Agreed, the main difference is the length of the body of the jacket is about 1" or 2" shorter than the sleeves. Aside from that, as long as the jacket style or fabric/color doesn't clash with the kilt tartan and fits well, it should work.

CT,
First before you do anything else look at Alan H.'s thread in the Kilt Accessories Forum about modifying a jacket to a kilt jacket (Alan has a website set up going over the whole process, step by step.) I wish I was more computer savy and could link this post to that thread. Second, look at as many pictures of kilt jackets as you can. Get a real feel for them (and print out some of the pictures to take with you to the tailor). Then you are ready to look at a jacket and determine what it would take to make it a good kilt jacket (if it could). Michael Steinrok used by same tailor and had a navy blue blazer turned into a wonderful kilt jacket. He went the extra step to get some Irish harp buttons to complete the look.
Good Luck! (A. -Hope to see you again at Devil's Canyou Brwery for our kilt night)

If you're going to do it yourself, I have one very , very strong suggestion.
Tweed. Tweed, tweed, tweed. Tweed is very forgiving of little imperfections. Fine cut cloth like what goes into tuxedo jackeets, is not.
Hie thee down to the jumble sale, or the discount clothes place, or even the Goodwill store and find a tweed jacket that you like, and modify THAT.
If you're going to pay a professional tailor to do it, that's different.

Oh no, this is definetly NOT a do-it-myself project uh uh.
I figure it's time to do something different for new years, the Robin Hood shirt is still a favorite but my freind Big Steve (of Clan Keith) looks quite the gentleman in his jacket, Panache's tweed is a seconder.
I'll take a gander at the threads mentioned and work on this (I only have what, 6 months or so ???)
