    Sash question

(Newbie here, forgive me for jumping in and starting my own thread about my own very specific question, but I don't know who else to ask! And feel free to transform into a more general discussion regarding ladies' sashes, as it seems most of the old ones are closed)
My fiance and I are gearing up for Burns Night, and he'll be wearing his (US Army) mess dress, as usual, and I'll be wearing my own clan's sash. Now, I know there are no hard-and-fast rules regarding women's sashes, but there are preferences, so my question is this: next year, after we're married, I'll be a Colonel's wife, but not a Colonel of a Scottish regiment-- so will I be a righty or lefty at that point? (and no, I'm not a dancer) I don't know if it's the rank, or Scottish specifically, or if it's just Scottish because that's who wears kilts.

    Fistly, welcome, from Inverness-shire.

I know this is splitting hairs somewhat, but just so that you know. Perhaps things may have changed since the recent amalgomations of the Highland Regiments , but it always used to be, the wife of the Colonel a Scottish HIGHLAND Regiment that wears a sash, if she chooses too. I am afraid wives of Colonels other Scottish Regiments just don't have that priviledge.

First off: Welcome to XMTS! Secondly, tacking on to what Jock Scot has said, you would wear your sash over your right shoulder.

Here's a bit more on the topic:

Are you asking about wearing your own clan's tartan sash, or the Army tartan sash? If it's your own clan sash, then you're not bound by "the rules" because you're breaking "the rules" already by not wearing his
tartan. So, it's up to you to wear the sash however you want.

Actually, as the Colonel and his lady are not yet married, our new friend is quite correct in not wearing "his" tartan.
