Shirt with this Kilt? No nay never?
So I got a kilt (2-of them) I just threw the first one on for a quick feel before I left.
I have few if any shirts left, something about being married and never seeing your favorite shirts somehow seem hand in hand to go.
This was the first one I threw on. Obviously going to tune it up a bit before I leave the house (this one was small)

This is what I was thinking for later tonight, since not only is it one of the only shirts I have left but it's the warmest. I also have a blue dress shirt and white dress shirt.

I'm not sure I would mix the patterns in the second photo. As for the first photo the only suggestion I have is that the sporran looks a bit loose.

Red with the green tartan is okay but a plaid shirt with a tartan kilt might be a bit over the top, especially as a starter. Go with solid. Adjust the sporran higher and go out and have a good time.

Nothing at all wrong with the tshirt but I agree that the flannel is probably a bit much. There's a lot going on with all that color and pattern and to my eye it's pretty jarring.

Thanks for the advice, already made adjustments to the sporran! Heading out to the mall shortly after I eat. Should be fun.

There we go. Hopefully the sporran is adjusted better.

The plain red shirt is the one. Just so you know, the basic idea is that the tartan of the kilt is the centre of attention so softer coloured shirts are more effective in achieving the effect. So perhaps in due course a purchase of a shirt of "softer" colour might be a thought? Perhaps even a lightly patterned tattersall shirt?

I also think a properly chosen tattersall pattern shirt works well with tartan also--especially for a more relaxed, country-daywear look with a bit of tweed added to the mix--although I do prefer solid color shirts myself. And this discussion also raises another question I've always had: is it appropriate to wear different variations of a tartan, e.g. kilt/necktie/waistcoat/fly plaid in some combination or other of, again for example, Royal Stewart, Black Stewart and/or Dress Stewart? Is that completely verboten, or at the very least really bad form?

So how was your first time venturing out in a kilt? Did everything go the way you thought it would?
