Should I?
I had ordered a kilt a few weeks ago... Campbell Ancient and made to my measurements. The kiltmaker is going on holiday in 2 days and therefore could not finish it in time for The Gathering in Edinburgh - where I am hoping to go kilted.
I have a Freedom tartan casual which is ok so I was going to wear that BUT...
I have been offered an Auld Lang Syne Modern (one of my favourites) kilt with my measurements for £100. It is ex-hire - although has not been hired out often and is as good as new I'm told. I can have it delivered asap if I accept.
At the moment I do have the money but certain people keep telling me it's a waste because with having 2 kilts - I'll only wear them both half the time I'd wear one. My defence is that the more kilt I have; the more events I will go to to show them both off!

I'd say go for it if you can afford it, it is really lovely to be able to have choice.
You are right there are some who only have one tartan (although sometimes they have several in different colour variations) and believe strongly in a single family representation.
Realistically unless you have very strong reasons that you are not allowed to wear other tartans, go for it and join the rest of us, indeed the most of us who have many different tartans, not least the the special offer is on a favourite tartan!

not at all. I ended up choosing Campbell because it is my middle; and my mother's maiden name.
I wouldnt mind wearing any clan's tartan - as long as it looks good!

I'd go for it. £100 well spent. I've been happy with ex-hire bargains in that price range. I've worn casual kilts to Highland Games and felt decidedly out of place among all the proper kilts worn by the pipe band people. You can never have too many kilts, I own thirteen formal eight yard wool kilts with number fourteen on order and I also have a further thirty casuals ranging from five yard wool kilts through tourist tat kilts to modern manskirts.

Very nice!
Thankyou... I agree. You can never have too many
It'll just encourage me to wear them to every event - even non-Scottish and non-formal occasions. I have The Gathering, Piping Championships, a wedding and my graduation this year. I could also wear my kilt for Christmas & New Year. There will probably be events and parties between these things too and I might be going to a few Scotland football matches
They'll both get well-worn

If you have the money - go for it. You won't wear it less if you have two, in my experience. You just have to get over the "rugby and weddings only" bias that's so common in Scotland ;-)

Wear it whenever you like... LOL since it's cheap enough

This is not the question to ask us, the kilt addicted. It's similar in asking an alcoholic would he like one more drink before he gives up drinking!

haha.
I can actually go and try the kilt on too now. Just found out the place in in Glasgow
Should be a perfect fit and I'll get to see the condition first-hand!
