So do I have this right?

    Hello all,

I am trying to venture into the kilt wearing arena. I have tried to read and search the forums but wanted to make sure I was on the right track. My main purpose is Highland games attendance, Ren Faires, and maybe costume. (not brave enough for every day yet) I have nothing that I can wear with this so I am starting from scratch.

    1. I was leaning toward casual package at usa kilts because I can get almost everything I need for around 250.00. But I understand that the casuals are designed to be worn low. As a bigger person I understand that it is better to wear it at the natural waist (like a regular kilt) I think you can get that option with them. So higher better? (I know the semi trad would be my best bet)

    2. Are the items that come with the casual package of decent quality? ie the sporran and the jacobite shirt. I believe you get what you pay for, but I also do not want bling. (I am a toyota not a lexus kind of guy) I do not want to pay for cheap items when I could have much better for a little more. Would it be better to just get the kilt and get the other stuff somewhere else?

My thoughts are to get a basic package and then upgrade piecemeal as finances become available, but this will be a good start and tell me if I enjoy it enough to make a real investment. I would like though to at least have a good outfit that I will not feel like I am wearing a costume of cheap quality. (again you get what you pay for)

    so any input?

    thank you in advance

    Hi Duffy,

All I can say is that USA Kilts are an advertiser here. That could be enough of an endorsement for you.

Everybody has to start somewhere. If you are going to do this, you will always, and I do mean always, want to upgrade. Buying a package lets you step out of the house, complete.

And welcome from the other side of the Atlantic in Norfolk, England.

    Regards

    Chas

I will volunteer that as an owner of four USA kilts (two casuals) they are superior quality for the buck. If you have the casual kilt made to order you can have the waist anywhere you prefer it. The measuring guide you fill out with your order will show you how to measure for a "traditional" waist position.

    Good luck!

Have you talked to Rocky at USA Kilts, or just ordered from the website? I highly recommend calling or emailing him before committing to a purchase. He can answer any and every question you might have.

Welcome from the mountains of northern New Mexico!

I heartily endorse USA Kilts. I own a casual kilt from Rocky and love it. It looks great and is of very good quality. My son has two casuals and my brother one. They both much enjoy wearing them. I have bought a number of other Scottish attire items from USA kilts and they have all been of fine quality. You can't go wrong.

Finally, I endorse the previous comments posted by other members of the forum. I suggest you follow their advice. Talking to Rocky and his staff is always fun.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I orginally chose USA Kilts because of the great response and endorsements here.

I called him and he was great! I think I have a handle on it.

    Thanks!

I am the proud owner of three USA Kilts casual kilts. I can vouch that I wear them high as that's from where I measured them. They are great kilts and you get the most bang for your buck. The accessories from the package are of great quality. I recommend USA Kilts whenever anyone asks me where I got it or talks about how good it looks.

Welcome from the highlands of Central Massachusetts. Get the best you can afford without being concerned about a 'package.' It is a garment on its own and the better you get the more you will like it. The other bits will come - it is amazing how easily you can find useful and necessary items. Good luck.

I am with Tulloch on this. Buy the very best that you can afford. For sure it will take you longer to get started and save your money whilst waiting, in the meantime do your research, find which is your style, learn, ask questions, learn and question again and again, look at the many kilted pictures--------BE WARNED-----not all pictures will demonstrate that the kilt and attire are worn correctly------observe, question, learn what is right and perhaps more importantly what is not right and then and only then start spending your money.
