SWK sizing
Getting ready to order my SWK heavyweight wool kilt. I have a 48" gold brothers, and a 46 "highland inspirations" both fit me my waist is a 47 so need to know if SWK fits larger or smaller. whats going to give me the best option for loosing or gaining a lil weight. I'm currently thinning down a lil bit so I'm leaning to the 46 but down want to be stuck with something I won't be able to wear before the snow flies.

I just got a Stillwater heavyweight wool. I measured my waist (right around the navel, as in the SWK measuring instructions) at 48-49 inches and went with the 50, which is about an inch too large, but is fine with a belt, so for my kilt at least the size quoted is pretty much right on.

Your best bet is to call them on the phone and ask some questions. The kilt has buckles so is the size ordered set for the middle of the buckle strap or one end? I have one of the SWK kilts and I assumed the size was the middle of the buckle but I now have a suspicion that is not the case.

i have a 45" waist and wore the 44" but sometimes felt I should have went 46".. I guess it all depends on how serious you are about loosing the weight.. or not..

From SWK Size info;
Our Economy, Standard & Heavyweight kilts are offered in EVEN waist sizes 30"- 52" (subject to available stock). Size is determined on our kilts with the buckles fastened at their tightest position. This means a 34" will go up to about 35.5". Kilts look & fit best with buckles at the tighter positions for maximum overlap. This does not mean the kilt should be tight when you wear it! If you are not sure about size, keep in mind that it is easy to alter a big kilt to make it a little smaller (just re-position straps & buckles) and very difficult to alter a small kilt to fit a bigger size.
Basically, order whatever size your measurement comes closest to.
Also remember to measure with the kind of shirts you will wear. I measure 41 and I got a 40 because I thought I would lose weight and depending on the time of the year I wear the kilt on the tightest hole but in the winter when I wear two layers of clothing I some times have to wear it on the last hole.

Its been my experience to go 'up' a size in SWK if you are in between. I'm one of those guys who also falls in between waist sizes and have had to send kilts back when I went down in size. Go up and you can always go to the first hole in the staps and tighten your belt if needed.
I own SEVERAL Stillwaters and have learned this lesson.

Thats great as they have the 48 heavyweight in Black Stewart instock and if I went with the 46 I would have to wait till they get it in stock. Planning on ordering a belt and sporran hangers with the new kilt anyway.

Well, I'll buck the trend and say that I measure out at a 44, but in SWK a 42 always fitsd better. I'd say order a size, and try it on WITH THE BASTING STITCHES STILL IN PLACE. jerry will exchange with no problems if it doesn't fit and the stitches are still there.

FWIW, I'm a 34" waist and ordered the SWK heavyweight in size 34, and it fits comfortably in the middle hole on the straps. (Mine also is the Black Stewart and I'm VERY happy with it).
