Alexis Malcolm designed the US Army tartan and is a very good kilt maker.
See here: http://www.alexismalcolmkilts.com/32.html Check out the military kilt accessories here: http://www.alexismalcolmkilts.com/1451/1469.html
However, any kilt maker can get US Army tartan material. Where are you located?

There is really not much guidance to give sence it isn't an official uniform of the U.S. Army. Just remember to read the AR670-1 it will tell you how you can and can't wear the uniform. Sorry to be a party pooper!

The only US military unit to be issued kilts as part of their uniform, as far as I know, is the 79th New York State Militia.
Their Full Dress uniform included a kilt of Cameron of Erracht tartan.
Their Service Dress uniform (which they wore in combat) included trousers of the same tartan.
This unit began in 1858. The Full Dress uniform was suspended when the regiment began active service at the start of the Civil War.
Here are some of the lads:

Also check with Rocky at USA Kilts. He may still have some Army tartan in PolyViscose if you are interested in options other than wool.

I don't think the OP was talking about wearing a kilt as part of his unifrom....
Anyways, I have one of Alexis Malcolm's US Army tartan kilts in the 16 oz. fabric and love it! I wasn't aware she had actually designed the tartan, however. I wish she had added a red over-stripe for us artillerymen!

Located at Fort Leavenworth, KS right now. (no I'm not in the prison, lol)
I understand it is not worn to be part of a US Army uniform. Been in over 21 years (MP)(no red stripes, lol)

I heard somewhere the black stripe was the smoke of the artillery, but don't remember where. Personally, as a former canon cocker I think there should be big red stripe.
If you see abbreviations, initials or acronyms you do not know the Xmarks FAQ section on abbreviations may help.

awmp...WELCOME TO THE FORUM!! You will find that there are tons of active, former, and retired military on here. I just got back from my 3d tour in Afghanistan and am new to kilting myself. My current kilt is a Young Tartan, but I will be making myself an Army Kilt in the near future...it seems to be the tartan that I can most appropriately claim as my "clan"!
Alexis Malcolm is a great recommendation from what I hear...and they have a great website. Any one of the kilt makers that you find listed throughout this site in many different threads would be able to make you one. The fabric is readily available so it's just a matter of reading some threads and doing your research on kiltmakers....to name a few: USA Kilts, Freedom Kilts, Barb Tewksbury, Matt Newsome, Skye Highland Outfitters, Lady Chrystel....and the list goes on and on! Happy Kilting!
