    what is this?? (piper's plaid?)

    Greetings,

I found this tartan item in my mom's cedar chest. It may be 75-100 years old (more or less). It is 27 inches wide and 128 inches (10 feet!) long! There are 3-inch fringes at each end. One long edge is hand stitched. Perhaps if it is a popular tartan, someone will even know which IT is! Pictures below.

    Thanks for looking,
    Richard

At first I thought Murry of Atholl but not quite right...perhaps Colquhoun? [also look at Hunter/Galbraith or MacKenzie]

    Re: what is this??

It looks like it could be MacKenzie (ITI 266). If the red is bordered with black, as is the white, then I would have thought it was the 78th Highlanders version (ITI 3600) of the Seaforth MacKenzie. Alas the resolution and color rendering on my monitor can sometimes be misleading, so I could be wrong.

On my monitor it appears both white and red stripes are bordered by black.

Thanks for all the help! The white stripe is bordered by a black stripe but the red stripe is not.

Are you sure? On my monitor, I'm seeing a border on both the red and white.

I withdraw my MacKenzie Hunting Green suggestion (has an extra blue/black bit in the sett)
