What to wear questions
Ok, I am going out to the Kilt night Saturday in Raleigh, NC, and I will be wearing my first kilt for the first time. It is a black watch tartan, and I have a simple leather sporran, black belt, silver buckle, and kilt pin. I am trying to decide what shoes and shirt to wear. Below are some of my thoughts.
I bought these Ecco Cross II shoes today thinking they would look good. (They sell for around $150 and I got them at close out for $22 )

I have off white hose with black watch flashes.
I have this new linen shirt in white or black.

I could forego the hose and wear Teva sandals sockless or brown hiking boots with scrunched down socks. I am open to thoughts and suggestions.
I must admit I have never asked guys advice (no offence to the women here) before about getting dressed, so this is tickling me a bit.
Thanks y'all!

The most important rule is wear what you're comfortable with. Black shirt with a black watch kilt is fine; as is white. In fact, all of the options you've presented fall well within the realm of acceptable. Remember, you're not putting on a costume, or adhering to a dress code -- you're just getting dressed.

After all the reading I have done here, I hoped these are all good choices. At some point in my kilt wearing I am sure I will do all of the above. I guess I am trying to decide on my first time.

I like the ECCO's, and that is a great price.
I am not so sure about the off white hose it is my feeling that white or off white hose are for formal events, however if they are the only hose you have than I would say wear the shoes and the hose with the white shirt, in that way you are tying the outfit together, if you choose to go with the boots then just scrunch down some other socks and you will be good to go with either shirt, the same thing if you are going for the tevas, any way you go you will look great.

I think either shirt is fine, and the hose, flash, shoes would also work. I'm wearing a similar color scheme in this pic.

I like the black shirt with the silver belt buckle. Slip over to Wal*Mart and get a pair of black or charcoal long boot socks and wear them scrunched down with the Ecco's.

I like this idea. But overall just wear what you are comfortable in.

I always try to match the shirt and hose. With the white hose, I'd go with the white shirt. White or black will go with about anything, you could also try navy blue or dark green with that tartan.

Your off-white hose, with your tartan flashes, will be just fine with those shoes. Don't worry about matching the hose to the shirt. I'd recommend the black one. Here's a pic of me in a similar color scheme. with my Irish National.

That would be my advice. Either color would work, but match the hose and shirt to balance the outfit. I will say though, that if you use the black, the whole outfit will be pretty dark. That's okay, but it is a consideration.
