Won't have PC or Argyll Jacket
Have somewhat of a problem. Next week I am going on a 9 day cruise in the Caribeann over the Xmas holiday. I would like to wear my kilt in the formal manner for the "fancy" Christmas Dinner. But...I have no PC or even a Argyll jacket because they won't arrive until the end of Dec or early Jan . That's the problem. My wife would really like me to wear a kilt to dinner and so would I since this will be my first official "Christmas in a Kilt". My question is this: Is it possible to wear something else that could subsitute the jacket that isn't standard for Kilts? In other words, can certain Tuxedo jackets be used or other type suits? Just wondering if there were any alternatives?
Thanks in advance.

While it can be done, and I've seen it more than once. It does not really look right, do you have a tuxedo jacket that would suffice or do you have to go out and find one?

You could use about any short tailed jacket, but the normal length jackets just won't look right.

rent a jacket
You can always rent a Prince Charlie jacket while you wait on the one you purchased to arrive.

An Eton jacket will work.

Check your local tux rental shops. They may or may not have them.

WEll, duh. He said it was for dinner so whatever jacket he wears he'll be Eton in it.
Sorry. I couldn't help myself.
I do know that most tux rental shops can get you one of those black tie waiters jackets that only reach the waist, and that wouldn't look bad at all.

Sorry, I didn't see you last reply about sizing problems.
Just go somewhere you can buy a cheap black vest and wear it with a bow tie. Sew on some silver buttons if you like, and you'll look fine. And seeing as how you'll be kilted, even without a jacket, you'll still be better dressed that the panted ones. (Is panted a word? )

I agree here. A vest can look very dashing.

Although I'm pretty sure you've already checked this out, the PC is for tux events, the Argyll is for everything else.
There are some threads on here that lead to off hire sites or waiter type jackets. Money and express shipping might work.
I'm noting a trend here, and it backs up my experience. Are jackets ever delivered on schedule? Should we always allow a month lead time on the delivery date? If these questions generate any discussion, maybe the mods can move the questions to a new thread.
