Accessorising
When wearing a tartan kilt casually do you always include:
1. Kilt hose
2. Sporran
3. Flashes (with hose)
4. Sgian Dubh
I'll start by saying I feel better with a sporran at all times, although I sometimes substitute a "bum" bag.
Besides, with no pockets, where else do you keep your stuff!
I don't always wear long socks, often short with boots.

I always have a sporran (couldn't not wear one), but don't always wear the hose and garter/flashes. I try to let the weather dictate the accessories. I do like my kilt hose, but wouldn't wear them casually in the dead heat of summer.

Hi Graham...
1. yes
2. No
3. Yes
4. No
I'm sort of the opposite to Colin. I like the tall socks but sometimes go without the sporran. All the flopping around bugs me sometimes so I'll swing it around to the side or take it off. I would never wear a sporran around in the house. I would never bother wear a sgian dubh to the store. Maybe to the games or a formal dinner but not casually. (Gee, I wonder what the tartan police would have to say about it.)

What I really like to wear in a casual situation is my sporran, kilt hose (embroidered with the Highland Tide logo of course!) and flashes, my bass or doc martin low cut shoes, and of course one of the fabulous shirts from www.highlandtide.com !
(it is a gratuitous plug...so sue me! hehe)

I'm like Colin and Hank in this case. Now that the weather is sorta mild (if you can call 10 deg C mild, which I can), a few times, I don't wear a sweatshirt or a jacket. So, no pockets for the keys or the wallet. A sporran is sorta required in that case. I did remove the tassels, since they did get annoying.
As seen in my mugshot (both here and on Tom's), I sometimes wear running shoes with my kilt. My sister doesn't like that, but, ya know, who cares what she thinks? ;¬) Usually, it's either dark brown casual shoes, or 8-eyelet black Docs (especially when wearing black or navy blue kilt hose). In the summer, you might see me wearing sandals, usually with KH.

Usually a casual wear for me is combat boots and regular socks. When the boot comes up to your calf, you don't need the hose. Cool weather casual is fun, because I can wear my motorcycle jacket with it. You know the classic 50s greaser style jacket. Works perfect because they are waist length and don't block the view of the plumage (pleats).

that sounds very cool Chris, I have a pair of those boots in the cupboard somewhere from my biker days (30 years ago).
Not sure if that look would go as well with an old geezer like me, but I'm sure it would look great.

Biker Boots
I've got a great pair of Dayton engineer boots that I trot out now and then. I'm wearing them in my avatar.

1. Kilt hose
---During the Winter, yes. During Summer, No. Somedays, I'll just bare my calves and wear sandles.
2. Sporran
--Not always. The main purpose of a sporran is to carry your stuff. During Winter, I can often do that in my coat. However to church, I always wear my sporran.
3. Flashes (with hose)
--Whenever I wear hose, I wear flashes, unless I want the hose to be on my ankles.
4. Sgian Dubh
--Never.

I'd love to get a sporran to wear with my bearkilt, but I can't afford it... I don't have any accesories, just the kilt.
