    Alternative to the jabot?

I have recently ordered a Sherrifmuir doublet and I was wondering if there are accepted alternatives to the jabot.
The reason I ask are twofold; the first being the ability to bring the doublet to more of a black tie level, and the second is that my wife is unsure of the jabot and fears an "Austin Powers" look.

I could not think of a better place than here to pose this question.

A black bow tie or a 'white' cravat are also fine with a Sherrifmuir.

I think much will depend on how your doublet closes- or how it lies if you do not close it. MacRobert's Reply has shown a couple of options. If you can leave it open, I think you can wear anything you would wear with an Argyll.

When I first received my sherrifmuir doublet, I put together this little photo montage just as an experiment with different neck wear options.

You can see I was also trying out different waistcoat options, as well. The grey tweed waistcoat was made with the sherrifmuir, which is why the bottom of the waistcoat lines up so well with the bottom of the doublet. It's the one I wear standard with my sherrifmuir, unless I am wearing a tartan waistcoat.

As for the neck wear, I think all options shown are possibilities, depending on what level of formality you are looking for. My particular sherrifmuir is made of tweed, so I can get by with wearing something less formal, like a four in hand tie. If you have a doublet made of a more formal material, such as velvet, I think you'd need to stick with more formal levels of neck wear, as well.

My favorite jabot-alternative is the silk cravat. Here's a close up.

This is a simple black silk cravat. I have since acquired an ivory colored silk cravat, which I wore to the Stone Mountain Highland Games last year. You can sort of see it in the below photo. I wish I had gotten a better picture of it that day.

Wonderful examples, Matt! I like the silk cravat as well, but I would opt for the simple, black bow tie as my jabot alternative.

    Cheers,
