    Argyll jackets: 5 makers?

I know there have been threads about how most of the Argyll jackets being sold by various firms in Scotland nowadays are made by a single maker.

I don't know if the makers here are in that category, but I couldn't help but notice these five used/vintage Argyll jackets being currently sold on Ebay having remarkably similar cuts; at least one could say that there's a shared aesthetic.

    Those Lapels

    I agree they are similar.

Is it me or are the lapels on the first two rather wide? It makes me think of the lapels from the '70s (back when ties were 4+ inches wide and more resembled bibs)

Because so many in the Kilt world cling so tenatiously to "traditional" asthetic ideals, it makes sense that the styles should be very similar. Were they significantly different they might be accused of being "WRONG" by the kilt kops.

Seems to me, in looking at a large number of vintage jackets and vintage photos, that the lapels on kilt jackets are much more stable than the lapels on fashion suits.

Seems that most of the kilt jackets have their lapels pretty much in the middle no matter what the prevailing fashion was at the time they were made. Ditto the traditional tweed blazer.

However, one does occasionally run across kilt jackets and tweed blazers with very wide lapels. These were probably bespoke items made at a time when wide lapels were in fashion.

Or perhaps conversion made from jackets that did reflect the trend of the time. In the photps, the top two just - to my eye - looked a tad wider. it could be an effect of the texture of the tweeds vs. the smoother worsted. Either way, I really need to get a nice Argyll. Perhaps I can find a local taylor to do a conversion for me. I have two identical tweed sportcoats that are unlined with patch pockets. ... hmmm... Now I have to go search for a taylor.
