Kilt Dos and donts
I've been meaning to suggest this for a while now...
I think the board really could use a decent kilt "dos and don'ts" thread... The one we have is just getting silly.
We have many newbies to kilts and kilting (like I am in many respects) who would like to get educated in regards to what looks good and what doesn't. The current thread is a behemoth at a whopping 224 pages! I've tried to look through bits and pieces of that thread, but it just isn't useful anymore! There are pages on pages of inane commentary and just all around useless posts mixed in with some humerous photos. In addition, having dos and don'ts mixed together gets a little confusing.
Could I suggest some sort of distillation process by which people (or mods) would choose the best exemplars of dos and don'ts from the current (and maybe a few other) threads and place them into two new threads. (Maybe the new ones would need to be pre-locked... I don't know)... But we really don't need 200 photos of people wearing their kilts too long and then another 200 photos of people who wear their pleats in the front, for instance... It's a fun thread, yes. Useful? Uh uh. Not unless you're willing to wade through 224 pages. I'm sure not...

AGREED! I just added another post to this excessively long thread!

No, no... That's all good too! I'm not suggesting we shut down the thread that Pour1Malt started -- it's a fine socialization thread and people SHOULD feel free to keep making it longer.... but just have something in addition to that, so when a newbie asks about a kilt do or don't, we don't just push him off into the deep end, to start wading through that maze...
P.S. (off-topic): I think the Cardinals were the victims of some really "creative" officiating yesterday... I'm not a Cards fan or anything, but I WAS cheering for them in the big game.

I'm with you on all those counts! The idea of taking the best points and putting them into a condensed thread would be great.
P.S. (off-topic): We're disappointed at the end of the game, but we're proud of our Cards! They had an unbelievable season. Hopefully, they can keep the momentum going into the next season. They showed that they have what it takes to be in the Super Bowl. Who would have thought?

I agree! I have been wanting to look at the thread, but I am not reading through all the hundreds of different posts. A couple of pictures would work too! (that is my favorite part of this is to see what people ACTUALLY wear to different functions, rather than what one is SUPPOSE to wear,)

Its a great idea and pictures can be very helpful to those that are new to kilt wearing. On the downside, I can see a "flat cap" type scenario where I am not at all sure the discussion was helpful to many!

Thinking on a bit, there are some first class examples of what people wear with their kilts in the "show us your pictures section". Take a look at the casual, smart and dress threads and "show us your best"(something like that anyway!). the pictures are not saying what is right or wrong they are saying, "this is what I am wearing"-----its up to you after that.

Hello All,
This sound like a great idea. As a newbie, I could do with being able to go to one thread and get good advice. As an example, jackets. I did not know that there was such a thing as a Crail till two weeks ago. I would like a thread that listed all the 'kilt' jackets, where they could/should and should not be worn and with what other accessories. This goes for all the accessories that one might wear. Sgian Dubhs & Dirks - should left-landers wear them on the left side or must they always be worn on the right? There must be hundreds of questions like this and a definitive answer would be welcome. "I always wear my PC on my Harley" is quite amusing, but doesn't answer any questions. I look forward eagerly to whatever the outcome.
Regards
Chas

Bad Bad Bad Bad idea. With all the militant "wear it this way!" crap of late we have enough discord going on. Who's opinion is going to be the one that wins on what is good and what is bad?!
Bad Bad Bad Bad idea.
Booooooooo.

Hello starbkjrus,
If I cannot get advice on the proper way to wear my kilt and accessories on this kilt board (supposedly the biggest kilt board on the net), I would be very indebted to you if you could tell me which other kilt board I should try.
Regards
Chas
