Advice Sought from Almost Unwearoutable Kilt Hose Owners

I'm planning to order a pair of kilt hose from the Almost Unwearoutable Sock Company. Should I order "4-ply" or "8-ply"? Although I like thicker hose, I plan to wear these with normal brogues and don't want them to make my shoes too tight. Anyone out there with experience in this area?

    Cordially,

    David

As long as your brogues are not too snug, go for 8-ply every time.

Todd has experience with this company, as well. Might want to send him a PM.

It's been years since I ordered from them, but I'm pretty sure I went with the 8ply as well.

I have 8 ply and 4 ply. I like the 8 ply more, but you do need to make sure your shoes have enough room. They aren't too thick, but could be a bit snug in shoes that fit close.

I have the 8-ply and they aren't as thick as the Lewis hose I have. go with the 8-ply.

That is interesting as I would not have considered the Lewis hose to be all that thick.

Todd, you have both. What would your opinion be?

I would tend to agree with that statement; the Bowmore hose do seem a bit thicker than the ones from Almost Unwearoutable. In terms of affordability, I would have to give that to House of Chevoit; while I love my AU hose, the options that H of C give are better for those who do not to pay the price of "bespoke" hose.

The Bowmore hose you purchased are not the same as the Lewis hose, though. Both are made by House of Cheviot, but they use a thicker sock on their country hose line (including the Bowmore) than they do in many of their Highland hose, which would include the Lewis.

Don't you have a pair of the Lewis hose you purchased from me a while back? How do your AU hose compare with those for thickness?
